Did your baby start sleeping through the night once you started cereal?

I don't know if its a myth - or if its true - but did you discover changes in your child's sleeping habits after you introduced cereal (other foods)......

Julia went through a growth spurt last week drinking 8-9 ounces and sleeping through the night for 4 days - now she's back to waking up at 3-4 am for another feeding.....ETA - she will be 3 months next week.

Just wondering if this will soon change when she starts cereal....

Ryan started sleeping through the night at 2 months old and he didn't get cereal until he was almost 4 months old.

We just started cereal too and Jacen still wakes up sometimes. But, there are nights he'll sleep through too, so it's hard to say. I've been told if they wake at night and you don't want them to, give them a bottle of water. Eventually, they won't bother to wake up anymore once they realize that's all they're gonna get!

Re: Did your baby start sleeping through the night once you started cereal?

Some of my friend's babies started sleeping longer after starting cereal but some didn't. I haven't started cereal yet here but I was tempted a couple of times when my 4 month old started waking up several times a night after he usually slept through. He still has random nights where he doesn't sleep through so I don't think its a growth spurt. I plan on holding out until I see other signs that he is ready to start cereal. For now, like you, I've heard that its not always the case that a baby will start sleeping through the night after starting cereal... so imo I wouldn't start it for the sole purpose of trying to get baby to sleep longer.

Kiera was sleeping through well before we even started cereal. I believe it has nothing to do with how much food but a schedule that you put them on. And the interaction that you have with them in the middle of the night.

Same here- Ryan started sleeping through before cereal- Actually previously to him sleeping through the night- I tried cereal and it made things worse....

On his time he started sleeping through the night- about a month later we started cereal...

Re: Did your baby start sleeping through the night once you started cereal?

Not really - he started sleeping thru the night (for me was 6-7 hr stretch) before I started cereal at 11 weeks. He did that for about 3 weeks and then got obsessively hungry and started wanted to eat all day and night waking. We started cereal early rather than giving more formula (he was already at 32 oz a day an dmy dr sait for his age that was the max I should go) and he went back to night sleeping.

Food never affected his sleep - positively or nnegatively.
