I don't believe so. I think the Dr. will be safe to assume you've lost it once you start dilating.

yess, they can usually tell since it is the cap to your cervix, they can feel your cervix better if you have lost it, it feels differentto them and the cervi gets softer.

It's exactly what it sounds like. It's a mucousy cap over the cervix, which you must lose in order to dilate. It doesn't happen until the end of pregnancy and can happen either days or weeks before you go into labor.
