Citibank Mortgage broker opened up a credit card without approval
Dh and I were shopping for mortgages last month and went to Citibank. The broker was very helpful, great personality. After helping us out, she shared that Citibank has a credit card where 1% of your spending goes towards your mortgage. I didnt want to do it so I gave my "I'll talk to my husband...."
DH and I get a joint Citibank credit card in the mail today, and I have no clue where it came from.
"Thank you for getting the Home Rebate Card"...she signed us up for the credit card!!!!!!!I am soooo mad right now. I know that they check your credit, but to open up a credit card for me....

Wow, I didn't think they could open a card in your name without your signature. I'd call Citibank and report the cards as fraudulent.

They probably already used your existing credit check from the mortgage to open this. Just decline the card and it comes off your credit report.

no, its already open and will effect the credit.
it needs to reported as fraud to come off completely.... creditors will see it as open and closed if not reported
to add...it probally have no effect depending on credit line but it shouldn't of happened in the first place

This is inexcusable IMO.
Can you find another mortgage broker? I would not want to give my business to someone who would do this. Sorry this happened to you

The same thing happened to me with Chase. They sent me a credit card (probably because I had a mortgage and HELOC with them).
I decided to take it in the end cause it was 0% interest deal for a year and is coming in handy for home improvements.
But I am definitely NOT a fan of this type of practice by these banks.

We were just "shopping" at the time, and havent bid on any place or obtained a mortgage. Needless to say, she will not be getting my business.
What I was most frustrated with was that she asked me and I never said "Yes" and she went and opened it anyway.

I would go to the NY state banking commission and the BBB, and consumer affairs, and the fraud dept. How awful!

Have you called her and asked why she did this without you authorizing it. I cant believe she would put her job in jeopardy.
Before reporting her, I would call her, explain that you never wanted it, never authorized it, etc and see what she says and take it from there.

Chase did it to us too!
We just tore up the card & chucked it out.
Although my DH did call our banker-guy every name in the book.
