Moms who give/gave their babies water..

Since Ryans 1st dr.'s visit my ped told me to give Ryan 1 oz of water a day....

He loves it, and does very well with it!!!

My questions is when can I start giving him more than an oz. I know the special baby water has flouride in it...and I know he can have too much of it... but somedays I give Ryan more like an 1.5-2 oz...

At what age did you give how much?

I put some in a sippy cup and he drinks it here and there. I don't think he drinks more than an oz and he is 9mnths old. I don't know if you would want to give him more unless he is drinking more than 30oz of formula. Since formula is the most important you don't want him to be cutting back there.

I give Jared 2 oz of water sometimes.... especially when he has the hiccups. I usually get it from the fridge (filtered water) and warm it up a bit, so it's not ice cold.

You have to be careful with floride as it can hurt a baby.
Personally I would ask WHY your doctor told you to do this? That is a very old fashioned thing to do, unless you baby has a medical problem that requires water.

my ped told me research has been done over the years and water is no longer good anymore for babies, that it messes up their electrolites

every doc is different..

Antonio loves water sometimes it is the only thing that stops his crying. My doc said no more than 2 oz a day. i have to force it away from him and I know he is not hungr because i will offer the bottle and he rejects it. He is ding fine with it he doubled his birthweight by 4 months. i think it helps soothe his gums too. Now I always give him some after cereal and his veg. He never rejects it!!!
