Re: Is this a good idea for the gutters?

we had them on our gutters....they worked great!! it diverted the water away from the foundation. Since we had out patio and driveway redone in pavers, we had a drywell put in and not all of our downspouts go directly into the ground into the drywell.

Cool thanks...They make these screens that you cut and fit into the top of your gutter - so debris and leaves dont get in there...Do you think they are worth getting?

Re: Is this a good idea for the gutters?

yes...and you can do it yourself too. They sell the tubing at Lowe's or Home Depot, some have holes in them so you can bury them in the ground and it waters the grass/garden it is buried in!

Re: Is this a good idea for the gutters?

We had them in our condo and they worked our great. I would highly recommend them for areas that tend to collect water.

WE have those smae spouts all over. Its a good thing because it keeps the water from seeping into our foundation. WE have no guards on the gutters themselves. DH cleans them out once a year - he gets on the roof with a ladder Chat Icon

Re: Is this a good idea for the gutters?

I hate cleaning the gutters...I used to do it at my parents house...It is a night mare to do...So anything I can do to prevent the yearly cleaning would be great
Thanks,
Scott

Thanks for a great link!

My inspector actually told me extentions like this are HIGHLY recommended for Levits to keep the water away from the foundation.

I will be buying these when I eventually close.

Absolutely, unless you want to go up on the ladder and clean all of the leaves out of the gutters every fall. Definitely worth it.

I'm buying my third house and I had them installed on every one... whatever I can make low maintenance I do.

Not to ask a stupid question, but won't the leaves just build up on top of this and create a blockage as well?

I 've heard mixed things about the screens, because every once in a while you have to clean up the debris. Again, this is second hand information. I live in a field (literally), so I don't have them on my house.

Re: Is this a good idea for the gutters?

I have no trees around my house, but im sure there will still be debris in the gutters...I dont think it matters if you live in a field or a forest, there is always debris and other things flying in the air....

It is a good idea.
Our new house has these, I have a feeling I will leave them down just in case I forget to put them down when it rains.

Nice concept.... but....

That looks like it could get real ugly if you forget to put it down when it rains.

Thats pretty much what the inspector said so unless we are running around outside with the dog or my cousin, I will leave them down.
