CHoosing a pediatrician..

The pediatricians DH and I used as kids, are still practicing and actually are eachother covering DR.'s

So Ive been planning on using them as my little guys pediatrician..

Do I have to call and meet with them before he arrives..also do you usually arrange for them to visit your baby in the hospital..

With all thats going on with me lately... I cant figure out if this is something that HAS to be done..and Im just over looking it...

What did all of you do?

When you go to the hospital they will ask you who your ped is. Once the baby is born the hospital will call your ped to come in and see the baby. Thats if the dr is affiliated with your hospital. If they are not affiliated, then the doctor on call will see the baby and you have to make an appointment with your ped with in a day of your release from the hospital.
Since you already know the ped and feel comfortable with them, I wouldnt call to make an appointment until after the baby is born. JMO.

Re: CHoosing a pediatrician..

Marissa -- I also haven't interviewed or met with my pediatrician yet either, and I'm 37 weeks! I actually am just going with the pediatrician my doctor recommended I think. All my friends' pediatricians are further away and I wanted one close by.

Right now we just have him down on all the paperwork becuase my doc recommended them. But I've nevercalled them to tell them I've definately chosen them. Should I do this soon, before I go into labor? Or will they automatically be contacted to come check out the baby in the hospital?

Yes a ped will need to see your baby in the hospital. And they have to have privledges there. So if the ped you choose does not, the hospital ped will see the baby then when you leave you can take the baby to your own Dr.

Mine was affiliated with the hospital as well so he was actually there in the operating room and saw the baby as soon as he was born and everyday thereafter was seen by the dr on duty from my practice.

I had to notify the hopital in advance who I wanted to see the baby while in the hospital (there were two practices to choose from), it was all in my pre-registration paperwork to the maternity ward.

ETS: that I never called the dr's office, the hospital arranged everything once I told them who I was using.

Good luck!
