Upgrade from infant car seat?

I know there are weight and length restrictions on the infant car seats, but what is the average age that the child outgrows this and needs to be put in a regular car seat? Thanks much.

That's what I said...but my friend says they should last until almost a year. She just had a baby (he is almost 3 months) so I was asking her opionion for doing my registry. Thanks.

Wow, I wish. ALSO you have to take into consideration that an infant carrier is like 15lbs. Along with a 16lb baby it gets heavy, fast. Most carriers have a height limit of 27". FYI Jeremy is 15 months and is 32" tall and 21lbs. Some babies can last in them longer but for their comfort and safety and for your back/arms comfort you may want ot get them out of it sooner.

ALSO, you may want to wait on the convertible seat. They come out with newer, safer ones all the time so by the time you need a convertible a newer model may be out.

Same here (well not both but my one). She could have made it a little longer but she didn't like sitting in that position and I was tired of lugging her around in it and just figured it was easier to switch.
It really depends on your baby's size and how they grow.

I switched at 4.5 months as she reached the height limit. I think the height limit has increased though on the newer models.

Re: Upgrade from infant car seat?

My limit on Bella's Infant Seat (Peg Perego Primo Vaggio) was 27 inches I believe and/or 20 pounds...However, once Bella hit 17 pounds it was so heavy, I could barely lift it. and she was 26 1/2 inches and I felt she was getting too big for it, besides the fact that she was sitting in the stroller without the seat anyway... so we switched out at just about 7 months...we got the Britax Marathon and we LOVE, LOVE it...

I know the new Primo Vaggios hold up to 30 inches and 22 lbs, but who the heck can carry that?!

I so have to switch...I have the Britax roundabout..was it hard to install? It took my husband a long time to install the infant one.
