Thanks Dad for telling me
As some of you may know my mom died at age 38 when I was 8 years old. I have no sisters and only one biologically related female relative... very male dominated family. I have virtually no female medical history in my family.
So today I get my paperwork from NSUH to fill out and it's very comprehensive. I called my Dad (has great difficulty speaking from a stroke) and ask him to clarify what he meant by "it took us a while" to have me. Turns out it was 5 YEARS!!! I always thought they waited to buy a house first. After that my mother was completely regular and got preggos with my brother right away.
OMG... and this was when my mom was age 24-29. I'm 35! Then I ask if she only got her periods every few months and he says "yeah" No miscarriages... at least none she knew of. A-ha mystery solved.
I know my Dad comes from the generation where you don't really talk about such stuff but really, he knows I'm going to see doctors now. I guess my ob/gyn was right about the hereditary link for PCOS.
In some respects the info makes me feel better. I will be certain to tell my future daughter much earlier.

Re: Thanks Dad for telling me
I can talk to my dad about anything and everything. I go to him First, and he is so easy to talk to!!! My mom on the other hand, well, let's say, my dad has gotten cards on mother's day.
