Ok, let's talk shoes...

I'm embarrassed to admit, until now, Alex has never set foot inside a shoe Chat Icon At the urging of her teacher, who has asked for shoes now three times, it has come time for little nature girl to squeeze her little sausages into a shoe. So, what sizes should I be looking at for a 1 year old? What kind of shoe is best? I've heard that it isn't good for their feet to be in sturdy, solid shoes and that the flexible ones are better for their feet. Where do I start looking?

Have you gone to Stride Rite? They have the walkers. Initially, they suggest you go with the good walkers. Down the road, you can spend less on shoes but the first shoes are pretty important (or so I'm told).

Re: Ok, let's talk shoes...

Is she walking yet? Stride Rite has a line for new walkers with a flexible sole, firm but more flexible than regular walkers. Youd have to get her fitted though, my DD was a size 3 at a year, my DS was a 5 1/2 so sizes definitely vary.

Go to Stride Rite and they will measure your dd's foot.

Completely agree. I've heard the same thing about first shoes.

Re: Ok, let's talk shoes...

don't be embarrassed, Bella didn't have anything on her feet--not even socks-- from Memorial day to September and my Dad called her a hoboChat Icon I called her a beach baby.

Besides, my doc said when they are learning to take steps that they should be barefoot and once they are confidently taking steps/walking then you should get a good walking shoe that is sturdy (ours used to be those hideous wooden ones) We also went to Stride Rite and they measure their foot. Most walkers are sizes 4-7 (Bella was 3 3/4 so we got her a 4)

I have to say, once she got used to them, it elevated her to a whole other level of walking/runnning...but they look like a disaster after just 3-4 weeks!

Re: Ok, let's talk shoes...

Definately take her to Stride Rite at least the first time (even though they are $$$). I had a pair of 3 shoes for Logan that I thought were too big because if I tried to put them on he would curl his toes so they seemed big(he was most often barefoot) and he never wore them. When he started walking I took him for his Stride Rites and found out he was a 4 1/2Chat Icon .....

I completely agree - go to Stride Rite. They measure her foot and you will be able to get a nice sturdy flexible walking shoe there.

Definitely Stride Rite. I went to the outlet and they are a lot cheaper than the regular store.

Re: Ok, let's talk shoes...

it's ok she didn't have any shoes. I only got Ryan's the beg. of this month. When they are walking it is best for them to be barefoot. If I put socks on him he rips them off. Now as soon as we get in the car he takes the shoes off tooChat Icon

Definitelt go to Stride Rite. They are a little pricey but I think it's worth it because you want to take care of her feet. Chat Icon

Re: Ok, let's talk shoes...

Michael is 13 months and 1 week and he only just got his first pair of shoes this past Sunday.
He got big fat feet - size 5w
they measured his feet at stride rite and since he is walking for a month now they said to get a shoe from stage 3 - walkers.

bare foot is definitely best and with it being the summer it worked perfect.
I wanted to get shoes now bc of the cold coming.
so don't be embarrased, its better you waited I think instead of wasting the money.

Where is there an outlet?

I live on Staten Island so I went to the Jersey Gardens Mall. However, I believe there is one in Tanger Outlets as well.

You are not alone! My little ones haven't had shoes on their feet yet either. Hailey won't keep a sock on at this point so I don't know how I'm gonna get her to wear shoes.
We will be going to Stride Rite, so thats my suggestion to you as well.
