Question about Bottle and Bottle Nipples.

Im using Avent and Dr. Brown Bottles - prefer the Dr. Browns though - anyway - wondering how often do u buy new bottles - is there a cut off time as to when you should get rid of the bottles.....

Also - did u change the Avent nipples to increase the milk flow on your own as your child got older - or did your peditrician advise you when to do so? Did you always change the nipple according to your child's age?

Re: Question about Bottle and Bottle Nipples.

As for buying new bottles I have no idea. We're still using the same ones because Miranda rarely takes more than 4oz. She will do 6oz in the morning so I use one of the bigger bottles for that.

Nipples she was on 1's for the longest time but then she got this formula that was too concentrated to pass through so we switched to 2's for that. I was nursing and supplementing (low supply) and didn't want her to get used to a fast flow. Well she seemed to finally get frustrated with the 1's around 5 months (I think) so we switched to 2 and that was the downfall of my nursing. She no longer latches. Bottles only now.

Anyway my ped. never told me when to switch nipples. I just figured it out on my own. Babies really cue you in on their needs. I'm sure you'll know when your daughter is ready for a faster flow.

Re: Question about Bottle and Bottle Nipples.

I had the same problem with a low milk supply and Julia took a liking to the bottle real fast.
She already seems to be getting frustrated with the number 1 nipple and she's 2 months - i guess ill monitor for for a few more days and see if i should make the change. Thanks.Chat Icon
