Please Help: Wheatly Heights: DIX HILLS (HHH) SCHOOLS

Please tell me is there anything that I should know about this area? The house is actually on the cusp of the Dix Hills borderline (three doors down starts DH). DH and I LOVE the house, the HHH school district and the neighbors (we've met 3 so far) neighborhood and seems great....quiet but kids playing in driveways, diverse and everyone seems to put a lot into their landscaping and overall property upkeep.

Originally we were only looking in DH but then found the same house that we loved (but w/ alot less amenities) literally five doors down for more than 35,000 more. Since it is the same seemingly wonderful neighborhood and schools but overall a more updated house we went for the WH one. We are on the verge of contract and feel good about moving forward but wanted to put it out to you all for last minute feedback.

Thanks in advance!

Not only a neighbor of Dix Hills, but also of Wyndanch, Wheatley Heights is a very nice community .. very well maintained .. very quiet. It was a nice place to be .. we were there for 3 years before buying our own house.

Good Luck!!

HHH is a good district, but I have a few patients that live there & they were upset about changes in the district lines & elem. kids getting bused to schools on the other side of the district. I have no idea about the details, I just know they were aatending board meetings & stuff.
My Grandpa was cheif of custodians for HHH for 35 years & my mom & my aunt went thereChat Icon
Good luck with the house!

Half hollow hills is one of the best districts in suffolk.. My son goes to school here. When making the move from nassua to suffolk this is the only district I wanted him to be in.
I dont know much about WH..if you cant afford the extra 35,000 then obviously you made the right choice..
To me paying more for my home was well worth it to have my kids in a top school..

Its all a personal choice.. no rights or wrongs..
If your in a nice neighboorhood, dont 2nd guess yourself..
Congrats!

Re: Please Help: Wheatly Heights: DIX HILLS (HHH) SCHOOLS

My cousin just built a beautiful house in WH and she has nothing but rave reviews about the area and HHH schools, she was telling me the school has more to offer then many of the other schools she was looking in to. She pulled her kids out of private school and put them in HHH School because they were so great and had a lot of things to offer the kids academically and socially wise.

Re: Please Help: Wheatly Heights: DIX HILLS (HHH) SCHOOLS

I went to HHH and lived in Dix Hills. My ex-bf in high school lived in Wheatly Heights on Brown Blvd. which is right next to the park. That is NOT a place you want to be, so be careful of where in wheatly heights your thinking of. His house was robbed so many times and as a young kid he always wanted to go into the park, but the Wyandanch kids beat him up just for being white. Since the Wyandanch kids were on his bus too b.c of the property lines, they beat him up on the bus too.

When we got older, we used to like going into the park b/c after people burgalized houses, they would throw all the stuff they didnt want in the park so it was an interesting treasure hunt LOL.

His parents never moved though and still live in that house. I dont think they ever really got the brunt of living there, where my ex-bf and his brother did.

I took the train from Wyandanch for a few years and there was also a lot of vandalism in the area that borders on Wyandanch. It seemed like a constant battle of people who had those white PVC fences vs. vandlizing neighbors. They would be kicked in and then the owners rebuilt and then just kicked in again. I cant imagine how frustrating that must be. That was right on straight path too so there is probably a lot of kid traffic walking around. Eventually the houses put brick walls around the bottoms of the white fences to prevent it.

Anyway my whole point of the long post, is just to be careful of where exactly the house borders on.
