Question about registering for feeding essentials...
Ok If you don't know if you are going to BF or use formula, should you register for the stuff you need for BF. Like the breast pump, nursing pillow etc. etc.
I'm a little confused about this...

I am leaning towards BF, but I only plan to breastfeed from the breast just in the very beginning til my milk comes in fully. I registered for the advent bottles, and a breast pump.
I figured if I change my mind about bF I can bring back the pump if someone already bought it for a credit, or if not, just not buy it.

Well you can still get the avent bottles whether you breastfeed or not.
How many oz bottles do you get, the 4 ounce ones? Do I need to get any bottles with more ounces on them?
And how many bottles should I register for?

Exactly! which is why i chose the advent, you can go from bottle to breast.
I didn't go crazy with the bottles just in case she didn't take to them or caused gas.
I registered for 2 three packs of 4 oz, and 1 three pack of 9oz. I also registered for the express sterilizer that comes with some bottles I do believe.

So let's say you can't BF, what would happen if your baby gets gas from the bottle? Do you change bottles?

Yup, that's why if you get a few packs of bottles, I'd hold off on opening them all until you figure out what works best for your baby. If that bottle seems to be giving your baby problems, you can exchange the unopened packs for a different one.

Advent is suppose to keep the gas thing down to a minimum, I know some girls on here use the dr browns bottles and swear by them.

I'm a little confused about this...
The advice I was given was to register for a starter pack of bottles (I picked Playtex starter kit w/ small and large bottles and nipples that are supposed to be more like a real breast - my friends baby loves them).
My friends who have kids have also suggested that I NOT register for a pump yet becasue I may not even be able to BF (but I will try) and they are expensive. You can rent a really good one from a lot of pharmacies - I know it sounds weird to rent something like that but they are really clean and like new.
When the time comes, if I need a pump, I think I'd rather rent a high end model then have a cheapie pump that didnt work as well - or have some one buy me an expensive one ...because I need so much of everything else for the baby.
YOu could always just buy yourself a pump when the time comes too and spend what you want.
I registered for the boppy nursing pillow because I know I'll use that if I BF or bottle feed.
Im going to buy a small smount of formula just inacse I cant BF and also because I think I might supplement formula with the BFing.

From what Ive heard it is. A few of my friends use Playtex. One uses the drop-in type bottles but I didnt want to deal with that if I could avoid it.
My other 2 friends use the ones I registered for. But really, its all about what your baby prefers...which is why everyone told me just register for a starter kit and see how she likes them and go from there. Same thing with pacifiers. You never know what kind your baby is going to like.

True but it makes it harder for you to decide which brand to get though...

every baby is different.
We are using playtex drop ins AND ventaire and she still gets some gas so we are going to try the Dr Browns which the Pediatrician recommended. I asked why and she said they trap the air better than Playtex. It's worth a try!

We use 8 oz Dr. Brown wide neck bottles and love them. Which ever brand you choose, register for the 8 oz bottles. You will only use the 4 oz bottles for a VERY short time (my son is 2 mos old and is already drinking 5.5 oz of formula) so it's a waste.
As for the pump, I wouldn't register for one. I know BBB will NOT take pumps back. You can rent a pump from the hospital, see how that goes and then buy your own down the road.
Eta: I would register for a boppy. I love mine.

I registered for a pump and a starter kit of the Dr. Brown's bottles. I wasn't even aware that some places wouldn't take the pumps back. I'll have to find out if BRU does because I registered for a good one, and if I get it and then end up not using it, I'd hate to be stuck with it.
I think I put some of the stuff on the registry thinking that even if somebody doesn't buy it for me, that I will may get coupons for it (I don't know if this is true or not but I remember with my bridal registry that after the wedding I got coupons to buy stuff left on the registry).
