Re: Sad. MIL related
oh man, does it ever stop with this woman?? sorry you are going through this sue...you deserve better.
as a side note, with my wedding fast approaching my fil's like to say they will "help" us, but when they asked us to borrow $$ a few months ago, i realized what kind of help we'd be getting.
i don't count on them for anything.

Sue, I'm sorry that MIL is always causing problems. Unfortunately, self-centered people don't tend to change and can never see how they are affecting those around them.

Re: Sad. MIL related
That is frustrating, but I would do absolutely anything for my mother without expecting anything in return. I've read your stories, and she does not seem like the nicest woman, but she gave birth to your husband and raised him. She made him the man he is today. It s&cks that she promised you money, but maybe she isn't really as well off as you believe. Realistically, if she does have money, you'll have it once she dies, if not sooner.

Re: Sad. MIL related
Posted by suvenR I guess my point is that we're sad at how she handled the situation, not so much as what she is or isn't giving us.
Ahhh I gotcha. I would feel weird if my mom or MIL felt like she had to offer us money to do things for her. Maybe she was a little upset or offended that you said you would take it? Sometimes my grandmother offers things, and I know the protocol for us is to say, oh grandma, thanks so much, but I could never take (whatever it is, $, furniture, etc.). I don't know. Families are all so different.
