Cabinet Refacing
Has anyone done this. Does it mean that you can only have the exact cabinets but with a new appearance? Meaning shelves, size, placement. Do they replace the drawers entirely? Some if mine are broken.

Re: Cabinet Refacing
cabinet refacing is not a very good idea if you are looking for a long term appearence it is good for a quick face lift but it is not worth the money all they do is have some cheap labor come in and glue a thin plastic over your old cabinets in which where ever there sheet of plastic ends is where you have a seam on your cabinet it looks ugly to be honest

Re: Cabinet Refacing
really. My mom had it done last year and it looks pretty nice. I'll have to look closer. We only plan to be here another year or so, so I didnt want to make a huge investment. It is a small kitchen in a co-op.
Any other ideas or suggestions out there?
Does anyone have an idea how much a small co-op kitchen would cost for refacing vs. installing new cabinets?

Re: Cabinet Refacing
There are different forms of refacing - we had it done recently and they did not just add cheap plastic over the existing cabs.
They removed all the old doors and drawers, added ALL NEW DOORS AND DRAWERS, new hardware, some new shelves, new molding and wood over the existing wood around the doors/drawers to make it a seamless appearance. We also got new countertops. It cost 8400 and we used a very reputable company. I dont think it looks ugly at all. It all depends what you do, who you use and how much you get/pay for. Our cabs were all wood to begin with and the insides were in great shape so it was the easiest way to remodel without the high price tag of brand new cabinets. We used Kitchen Magic and their work is guaranteed as long as we own the home.

Re: Cabinet Refacing
I had my small galley kitchen in my co-op refaced and it only cost $2,700 for new doors, new drawers, new countertop and backsplash and they installed the new sink (but I had to buy it). I used Island Wide in Brentwood.
ETA: That was about 3 years ago. I sold the co-op since but it was in really good shape when I left 6 months ago
This is an idea of what it looked like afterwards Image Attachment(s):

thanks ladies, thats quite a difference in price. Maybe the size of the kitchens. I guess I should start shopping around.

Re: Cabinet Refacing
Probably the size of the kitchen we had about 22 cabinets altogether and did Corian countertops...
