Re: Stroller & car seat vs travel system......
I can't give a personal opinion because I've never had to use either one before...however, I registered for a travel system that I had researched and the reviews about it were very good.
I do agree that all of this is very confusing!!!!

I say travel system, it is very convenient, espeically since you'll be delivering in cooler weather, so you want the bay to be toasty. It is much more convenient.

Re: Stroller & car seat vs travel system......
I also cannot speak from personal experience, but I guess I'm in the minority here...
I had not heard such good things about the travel systems from my "mom friends" and the Baby Bargains book did not recommend them. Evidently (again, I can't know this personally), they are very cumbersome and can be heavy.
I registered for the Peg Perego Pliko P3 for my lightweight stroller and the Graco Snugride car seat to be used with the Universal car seat frame stroller-thing.

Re: Stroller & car seat vs travel system......
I have a travel system and still haven't used the stroller yet. It's so big that I don't bother with it.
If I had to do it over again, I would have just registered for a infant carseat and the Kolcraft universal carseat carrier, then buy a stroller later. The kolcraft is so much lighter and easier to manage when you have to deal with the carseat.

Re: Stroller & car seat vs travel system......
I had the travel system and it was great. The nice thing about it is when you are getting in and out of the car, you don't have to take the baby out of the car seat, just unhook it and go. Babies love to sleep in the travel seat too, since it is nice and snuggly warm for them. I used mine until Jake was about 5-6 months old.

Re: Stroller & car seat vs travel system......
I can't speak from experience yet...but I registered for the Graco snap and go as well as the travel system. I figure, if I am just running into a store, I will use the snap and go because we won't be in the store long...when we go somewhere for a long period of time and she will need to lay down, we will use the stroller...

Re: Stroller & car seat vs travel system......
I have the Graco Metrolite w/ matching stroller and honestly, I hate it. In retrospect I should have gotten the snugride w/ either the universal or snap and go and then a lighter weight stroller for when she grew out of the seat.
My metrolite is 18 pounds which is pretty heavy (especially when you're preggo with #2) and it takes up 90% of the back of my Envoy. I'm just not a big fan of the metrolite - I wish I would have gotten the Peg Perego Aria (only 9 pounds) or something other than the Graco.

Re: Stroller & car seat vs travel system......
I have a travel system (I think), I have the peg perego car seat that can snap into the venezia stroller.
I have only used the 2 pieces together ONCE.
My son isnt the biggest fan of hanging out in the car seat for extended period of time, but he loves the freedom of being in the stroller.
When I need to run into the store I just take the car seat and plop it into a shopping cart. This works great for running into target, the food store, babies r us, etc...
When I know I will be out longer I take him out of his car seat and let him stretch out in his stroller.
He was in the venezia since week one w/out the car seat. I love it b/c it can lay all the way back or sit up, plus I can move the handle so I am facing him or he is facing out. It also has a removable apron w/zipper that goes around the base and over the top of his legs. Ive never reomoved it, it makes for a warm cozy bed when needed. The stroller is great for flat surfaces, it is not great for uneven sidewalks.
after I typed all of this, maybe what I have ISNT classified as a travel system, although the 2 pieces CAN travel together...whatever, Im not deleting the post now :)
