Me too. But I have to say there is a time & place, just like anything else.
ETA: I will change that and say that I like intelligent debates/conversations. What I do not like is when someone gets "preachy" or says things like.."how can you believe that...blah blah blah...." then it is no longer an intelligent conversation, but rather a p&*^&%*ng match

I think it depends on the people having the conversation. I think it's fine if there is respect and willingness to agree to disagree.
They tend to get hostile when someone is trying to change someone else's mind or opinion or resort to name calling.

I've started a couple of threads (re: today, the supreme court ruling against Bush and the outcomes of some senate outcomes/supreme court rulings) - they don't always get a response but I post them anyway.

I may not always respond to them, but I like reading those posts. 
I love a good debate so long as people discuss the issues and don't resort to name calling. I don't see any problem with political posts.
