I was at the store and have a question about Stage 2 foods

do you give regular fruit as desserts or do you use the actual desserts they have?

Why am I asking? I read the labels and some of the actual desserts have egg yolk and milk in them (the custards and stuff)

We use fruits. I really don't want her getting used to "dessert" having to be a treat type thing. I prefer she get used to healthy things like fruit so why not get in the habit early. But I also have to say I've never seen custards or anything in baby food. Maybe the brands I use don't make them. Chat Icon
I do give her a breakfast that has yogurt and egg yolk fruit and cereal in it.

I don't buy the desserts either. I use the fruits only.

The NP at my ped's office said I could give Hayley the custards now (she is 9 months)

I would say at 9 months when you start yogurt those are fine. That being said - I never found any reason to give desserts...I think I maybe used 3 jars the entire time Kevin ate baby food and he actually didn't love them...he still isn't a huge sweets eater!

Those have added sugars so I don't give them to him at all. DH keeps buying them so I have a bunch just sitting there.

Thanks ladies!

Another dumb question....I saw there were cereals with fruit in them....why should I give this to her instead of the dry cereal I make for her with fruit?

What's the difference there?

For me it's pure laziness. I don't think there is an added benefit. I just like not having to mix it myself, dirty a bowl and inevitably spill that flakey cereal all over my kitchen counter.

I've never given dessert when they were babies. We rarely give out dessert now. I saw no point in it. I would rather get something nutritious in them. Fruits were given when they would stop eating vegetables. I would give a few spoonfuls.
