Corned beef in the crock pot?
Does anybody know how to do this -- how much water, how long to cook, how & when to add cabbage + potatoes, etc?
I have to work on St. Paddy's day, but still want to have the usual fare with DH for dinner.

Put the beef in the slow cooker and add water to cover. Add 1 medium onion cut into wedges and 1 clove of chopped garlic. Add either small potatoes or large ones cut into wedges. Top with cabbage. Cover and cook on low for 7 to 8 hours.
I make it this way all the time. It comes out really tender.

LOL, I won't eat it any other way now. It isn't tender enough when you only cook it for a few hours.

The one I buy doesn't come with spices, but I don't see why you couldn't.

Do you quarter the cabbage before putting it on top? TIA! Sounds good.

Re: Corned beef in the crock pot?
In a crockpot is the only way I ever make mine ... mmmm
Here's my recipe:
*layer peeled quartered potatoes on the bottom of the crockpot *on top of the potatoes, layer the cabbage *on top of the cabbage add the corned beef FATTY SIDE UP
add 1 bottle beer, the darker the better (guinness being the best), the seasoning from the corned beef package, the remaining juice (well, a nice way to say blood ) from the corned beef package, a bay leaf and then water to cover.
turn it on low and cook cook away
mine usually cooks anywhere from 8-12 hours.

I know this is old but do you add garlic too or is that in the seasoning packet?

Re: Corned beef in the crock pot?
I have a very simple recipe: Put corned beef in the crock pot. Pour a can of beer on top of the beef. Fill the rest with water.
I always do my cabbage and potatoes in a separate pot.
