Maternity Clothes advice...

For all of the new preggos, I just want to advise you to think about buying clothes bigger than you think you will need. I am normally a size 6 (5'7" and 128 lbs), which makes me a small for most maternity clothes. I did buy some mediums (luckily) but most of THEM don't even fit anymore. Basically, if I had it to do over I would have bought several larges and MANY DRESSES because those are the only comfortable things I own. You just can't imagine how big you'll get at the end - and now I have NO CLOTHES!!!

I got the same advice from my best friend...we are the same build and size and she went all the way into XL maternity clothes!!!

The mediums are fitting me now at almost 4 months along!!!

Ditto ditto ditto! I was a size 8 pre-pregnancy and so I bought mostly smalls and a few mediums... at first NONE of the clothes fit, not until I was about 20 weeks. I grew out of the smalls pretty quickly, and even now I'm starting to grow out of my mediums, and I'm only 31 weeks!

Totally agree! I bought some Old Navy pants in M and in L to see which fit at 4 months...well the mediums were great and the larges were too big so I considered returning them. Good thing I didn't!!! They are the only comfortable pants I own now...and the only ones that even fit!! AND they are even a little snug!!

I always warn people of the exact same thing! I experienced it last time and this time I learned my lesson. One thing I also learned is sometimes regular clothes are just as long as maternity (shirts) and the exercise pants are basically the same and a lot cheaper.Chat Icon

Wow! I am so glad that I am not the only one. The salesperson at motherhood told me that whatever size you are pre pregnancy is the size you will be during the pregnancy. I thought I was getting out of control big when i began to grow out of all my smalls. I am 28 weeks and had to buy a whole new maternity wardrobe in sizes medium and large.

This is GREAT ADVICE!

Re: Maternity Clothes advice...

I seem to be the outcast but I have to disagree a little. My advice is to wait until you get closer to the time you will actually need the clothes rather than buying too early. I wish I would have waited a little longer before buying any clothes. I was a size 1 pre pregnancy (0 in some things) and bought some xs and some smalls. I was afraid to buy too many xs things because everyone told me how you blow up at the end so I bought smalls thinking I would be huge by the end of the pregnancy but now I regret it. All of my small capris literally fall off me where I am tugging at them all day...it drives me nuts!!!!!!!!!! Granted I still have 7 more weeks to go so we'll see what happens...................

I think that's the key - Don't buy everything you think you will need in the very beginning. Buy enough to get you through stages but not too much. I'm wearing totally different maternity pants this pregnancy, but I still have problems with shirts being long enough because of the way I carry.Chat Icon
