I guess I am asking moms who have two or more. If you had a c-section the first time did you have to have a c-section the 2nd time and why? What was your doctors reason?

I have only had one so far, but I have heard its pretty common, however there are some docters who will do v-backs

not necessarily. VBACs (vaginal birth after c-section) are getting more common.

I know Trish just had one with her 2nd.

i had a csection with baby #1 cause she was 9 pounds and breech. i had csection #2 cause doctor was concerned of uterine rupture. i have to say, i had a fantatic experience with both csections and wouldnt have changed it.

Hope not; I'd at least like the option. I haven't asked my doctor about it yet though.

I can't speak from experience but when my mother had me I was a c-section because I was breech. When she had my 4 sibilings they were all vaginal. I will add though that their are 5 years between me and my brother.

not my own experience, but my SIL had twins via a c-section and had their third vaginally.

Re: Just curious-Once a c-section always a c-section

Emma was a C/S. Jeremy was a repeat C/S out of fear of going naturally again and having another C/S or possible uterun rupture... or something else. It was just better for me. ETA: my doc was all for a VBAC if that was what I wanted. But I decided against it.

Re: Just curious-Once a c-section always a c-section

My doctor immediately said no when I asked about a VBAC for baby #2. Finally after a bit of discussion, he agreed that IF I go into labor before my scheduled C-section and IF things are progressing smoothly, then and only then will he let me try vaginally. Really ticks me off, because I don't think I'm getting a fair shot, especially since my C-sections already scheduled for a week before my due date.

Re: Just curious-Once a c-section always a c-section

My 1st was delivered via vbirth and my 2nd was a c/s because she was breech. I had hoped to VBAC with my 3rd child but he was a breechie too so I ended up with another c/s. I was a good candidate for a VBAC b/c I went into labor on my own with the 2 previous pregnancies (I did as well with #3) and I had a successful vbirth of a 9lb+ baby already. The reason for the first c/s can play a huge part in your ability to successfully VBAC as well as the size of the new baby. Like in Trish's case. I was amazed that all the nurses at Winthrop were telling me most OBs that practice there do not allow VBAC. They were so surprised I was one of them! I was the talk of the maternity floor that weekend! Chat Icon

Wow, I'm surprised they were so shocked. Just because my OB is very popular at Winthrop - so many of the other new Moms who were on the floor with me were his deliveries as well. He's very pro-VBAC.
