Delivery room spinoff

If you only had your DH in the delivery room with you - how did you break it to your Mom that you didn't want her there? DH and I have agreed that (at least) when it's time to push, we want it to be just us... but I don't know how to tell her. She's going to fly up from Florida when I call her... DH says we shouldn't even call her until it's time to push... but I know she'd never forgive me if I waited that long. Plus she's been calling 2-3 times per day everyday since last week so it's not like she's not waiting for it!

I was very honest with my mom that DH & I felt strongly that this was a very initmate moment where we would get to meet our child for the first time and we wanted it just for us. Both my mom and MIL understood (or said they did) since they got time alone with us when we were born.

Can you tell your mom that the hospital doesn't allow anyone but husbands in the delivery room when the pushing phase of labor is going on. If you don't feel comfortable doing it, maybe the delivery nurse can say something to your mom. Talk to the nurse on the side or something. I know my delivery nurse asked me if I minded my mom being in the room. I told her I didn't mind. She offered to say something to her if at anytime I felt uncomfortable. I am glad my mom was there. All along my dh and I were all for just the two of us. But, my mom stayed and all I cared about was meeting my little girl. Having my mom there was special. She was in no way an interference. My mom now has such a strong bond with my daughter. It is very touching. She also sat down next to me and kept putting warm faceclothes on my head as my dh held my legs and counted. I never felt alone. When Emily was born, she didn't hold her until way after daddy and mommy did. She left soon after her birth so we could bond with our daughter. She was such a wonderful support.

I never told my mom that she was allowed to be there and didn't think I had to. I didn't want anyone in the room but DH at all for the entire time I was in labor...I really wanted to be alone for this. I wasn't in the mood to entertain guests - lol. My mom snuck in at one point but only stayed for a few minutes and I kind of just let her know I needed to be alone. If my mom asked to be in, I would have let her know that this was an expereince DH and I wanted together and privately. I think she would have been fine and respect that.

My mother assumed that it would just be me and my DH.

My hospital only allowed DH (or ONE person of your choice). My mom was actually down in the waiting room and came up as soon as the baby was cleaned up (they let her in then)
