Ipod question for techies
I just ordered the Ipod video one from ebay. i currently have a mini that i'm giving to my friend.
now, my question is, can i give it to her and she can have all my songs? She currently does not have an ipod but has itunes and has bought songs. Will she automatically get my songs once she plugs the ipod into her computer?? And if she does, do i still have them on mine? I have about 800 songs on my ipod and i'm afraid of losing them!! But it would be cool if she could have them, too.
Also, for those who have the video ipod, and if you buy a show, can you burn it onto a dvd, too to watch on regular tv??
ANy help would be appreciated!

Re: Ipod question for techies
As long as they're on your computer, you won't lose them and you'll be able to upload them to your new iPod.
As far as her getting to use them, if she wants to add songs, I'm not sure. I think to sync, the songs on the iPod also have to be on the computer or she'll lose them he she syncs (i'm not sure about this) and it's really hard to transfer songs from iPod to computer. To listen to your songs on her computer, if yu got them from iTunes, I think you'll have to authorize her computer to play songs from your account.
I'm not sure, soeone will know better than me. I switched computers and I know I have to transfer my songs over to the new computer to get all new and old on my computer. But i want to say , you won't lose your songs

You will be fine, but she on the otherhand will lose your songs once she syncs with her own iTunes.

Re: Ipod question for techies
If she plugs the ipod into her comp, whe won't loose the songs. She has to first upload itunes. Then, it will ask her if she wants to replace existing library and she must say NO because then she won't have any songs.
To transfer from ipod to Computer:
In iTunes, go to file/properties. then she should check of "enable disc use"
Then, go to Control Pannel on the computer and click on "Folder Options." She should select the option "show hidden files and folders."
Now, she should right click on START and select EXPLORE. Then, double click on the drive that the ipod is called (usually it's E, but it will say either ipod or "removable disc")
She'll see a bunch of folders and i think one is music (or it might be ipod then inside that folder the music folder, I don't remember clearly), but after she gets to the music folder, she will see all the music arranged in different folders. She just has to copy those to her music folder on her C drive.
Then, she has to go to iTunes and click on File, Add Folders to Library, then select the music folder. Then, they will copy to her library.
Some versions of itunes may copy over without having to manually do it in iTunes, but I'm not sure about that.
If she has any questions, FM me.
HTH and I hope it makes sense.
ETS: I didn't see that she already has iTunes, so she just doesn't have to dowload it again, but should copy the music into whatever folder her already existing iTunes music is in.
