Dixie will be a big sister soon...what can I do to help her?

I am 8 months preggo and I was wondering what other people did to acclimate their dog to the baby?
Dixie was our first "baby" and I am afraid she will feel neglected once the baby comes. We shower her with attention all the time, and so I don't want her to be jealous. Any advice/comments would be appreciated. TIA Chat Icon

well first of all, when my daughter was born, I told my husband to take one of her blankets to Zoe, our dog so that she would get use to her scent.

something also very important is to make sure when you are with the baby, to make sure that your husband pays attention to the dog and viceversa.
it works, you should see how my daughter and zoe are like best friends.

I have heard of the blanket thing too, and I am planning on doing that. I also have heard that when you come home from the hospital with the baby that you should come in first not holding the baby (have DH wait a couple of minutes outside with the baby) and give the dog lots of attention and then bring the baby in.
I am nervous about this also. My puppy is very spoiled and gets jealous if I even just play with another dog in front of her.

Good Luck!!Chat Icon
