If you just started a job last week...
You should NOT call in sick!
Someone who just started last week called in sick yesterday. She came in today and she doesn't even look sick. I know a faker when I see one...and now she is leaving because she still "sick."
I guess I could see if she really looked sick, but I wasn't fooled.

Re: If you just started a job last week...
sounds like something my brother would do- I wonder why he can't hold a job for more then 4 months
meanwhile- I would come in with my arm falling off if I just started

Re: If you just started a job last week...
I don't disagree that when you start a job you should try to get off to the best start you can. However unless you are this person's doctor you just don't know what's going on with them. I wouldn't hold it against a person. People often have conditions the rest of us aren't aware of.

I started a job once and a week later got strep! I didn't look sick, but boy did I feel awful. If this person is on probation, maybe they can ask her for a doctor's note?

I interviewed with the flu. My boss still talks about how cool it was that I wouldn't shake his hands because I didn't want him to catch it.
If it were me & I couldn't drag myself into the office, I'd have a doctor's note in hand when I came back.

I can see if there was a preexisting condition, but she said she has a sore throat and was vomiting. I'm sorry, but if you can travel one hour here and one hour home, that is half the battle...you should stick it out for more than one hour in the office. Especially since you haven't vomited here in the office.
Well, maybe it's just because I can't take off when I'm sick because if I do, I get bothered at home. I can't even be on bed rest and not get bothered to work, so I can't relate to people that call in sick whenever they feel like it.

Agreed, though it'd have to be the beaubonic plague to keep me out of work 1 week after I started.
I agree with Michi - they're probably going to quit, she's probably interviewing during her 'sick' time.

I can't stand people like that!
My lazy azz co-worker I share a cube with, was 90 minutes late on her first day of work. Should have been a sign of things to come

Re: If you just started a job last week...
I started at my current job last year in the middle of winter and two weeks later got sick and was still coming in coughing and wheezing and so congested. Then my boss told me to stay home and rest, I did for one day and then came right back to work. A few months later I had minor surgery done(still should have stayed home after) but still went to work the same day and hour after it was done.
I try not to be out sick unless I really really have no choice.

Re: If you just started a job last week...
If she's really sick, I wouldn't want her there whether she's there a week or 10 years.
There are no medals for working sick...it's counter-productive.
Now, if she's lying-it will all come out soon enough..try to not let it bother you.
