Where do you get your design ideas from?

I watch HGTV all the time but I can never remember half the things I see that I like! My memory stinks.
Does anybody know of any good websites or magazines?

Veranda
Florida Architectural Digest
Trends (I have all their books)
getdecorating.com
bhg.com

These are the only ones I can remember off the top of my head but I basically go to Barnes & Nobles or Home Depot and flip through their books and magazines. I've purchased several that have been terrific in aiding me throughout my entire design process.

I've gotten some of the best pictures from:
BHG.com
HGTV.com
The Behr paint website
The Benjamin Moore paint website.
I've also gone to the bookstore and just sat down and flipped through the magazines int he home section.

I have bought decorating books, Barnes and Noble or Borders has them in the bargain section all the time. I also buy the BHG special edition magazines. they have one called walls windows and floors which is really good. They are at the supermarket. Check out BJ's and Costco for low priced decorating books. Also HGTV DIYnet.com have a website that they post directions to their projects. If you know the name of a technique you want to do just type it into google and you will come up with tons of info. You can also go to google images and type in what you want. For instance I was looking for nursery murals typed that in and got 50 pages of pictures of murals.

Really? Is he an interior designer or something? My DH would be happy with bare walls and tiled floors. And my creativity isn't much better than that! Chat Icon

I like:

the Pottery Barn catalog (it's not hard to find similar items at Target and Pier 1)
Domino Magazine is cool
Better Homes and Gardens puts out lots of magazines on decorating on a budget, etc.

I'd suggest hitting a bookstore- I love to look at the section with the decorating magazines. It seems like there's something for every style and budget.

Re: Where do you get your design ideas from?

We actually tore down the second floor of my parent's house and built 3 bedrooms, kitchen, dining area, living room, and 2 baths. When it came time to decorating I just used what I saw on Trading Spaces (TLC). I love that show and got so many great ideas from it!
