Girl or Woman?
I feel as though I might have asked this in the past, but if I didn't or if you want to play again:
At what age do you call a female a woman? Is it based on attitude? Marriage? Children? Career? Something else?
At what point do you say "A woman at work", or" a woman I am friends" with instead of "a girl at work"etc.?
I have a friend who is 35 who I would undoubtedly call a woman. But my SIL is the same age and I would refer to her as a girl.

Re: Girl or Woman?
For me it's less about age and more about familiarity.
If I know the person well I'll say "girl" but if they are more of an acquaintance I say "woman".

Re: Girl or Woman?
I don't think age is everything. I think it is more about attitude and responsibilities. My cousin has 2 children and in many ways, I think she is still a girl. My coworker is newly engaged and younger than my cousin, but a heck of a lot more mature, therefore, I consider her a young woman.
ETA: Re-read the question and will admit that I refer to people who are older than me (by a good # of years) as women but younger than me as girls.

Re: Girl or Woman?
I try to refer to anyone over 18 as a "woman" regardless of maturity level. In college my hall director reprimanded me when I was an orientation leader and refered to the other people on my team as "girls".
However, if I'm making plans with my friends, I say "girls" - in that context it implies a level of closeness.

Ditto!
The only time I probably say "woman" is probably when its about a MUCH MUCH older lady (say, a senior citizen ..)
Otherwise I'm always saying "this girl" or "this guy"

Re: Girl or Woman?
I think it is maturity level. However, I find that people at work call me "girl." I started there when I was 19 and although I was on the same level as them, they found it hard to call someone half their age a woman. So, for some people it may be all about age.

Re: Girl or Woman?
Honestly, when I think woman, I think of an old lady. I get so mad if someone refers to me as a woman
