Please post pics of your deck/patio
or any other back yard pics you have. We are having our old deck taken down and having a new one put up (a 2 level deck ). I interested in getting deck ideas and landscape ideas. Thanks so much!

These are actually the pictures from the MLSI listing of our house. It's exactly the same except we have no patio furniture right now, so it's pretty bare!

Here's some of our yard, I wouldn't say there's much landscaping going on (to come eventually though!). We're backed to a hill, so we have a lot of unuseable property.

Does adding a patio or deck increase your property taxes?

I am not 100% sure, but we have the same house as the neighbors on our block (all hi-ranches in a row) and our house is listed as having 300 more sq ft because of the deck! I would assume our taxes are a bit more, but I am not 100% on that. Maybe someone else knows more specifically.

Re: Please post pics of your deck/patio
I think the taxes only go up if you have a roof over the patio or deck -- not an awning though.
If you are in Nassau you can go to
www.mynassauproperty.com
and see what you are being taxed on.

Re: Please post pics of your deck/patio
Different towns require C/O's for your decks and patios. You would need to check with your town for their specific requirements. If it is required on your C/O, chances are your taxes will go up (but so is your property value). Towns find any reason to tax you more.

Here's ours: the deck is not new but still in good shape
Our back flowerbed - I actually want to replace some of the hostas with evergreens - I hate how the yard is so dead in the winter.

Re: Please post pics of your deck/patio
Danielle and Michelle- I love you patios. The pavers make all the difference. Beautiful
Trish - Your backyard reminds me a lot of mine. It looks like you have sooo much space!
Teri- Your yard is beautiful. I totally understand what you mean, our backyard looks so dead in the winter also. I need to do some major planting this year. Your deck is very nice
Thank you all so much for sharing.I'm itching to get my new deck. I think we are doing it in Cedar (hopefully thats a smart choice)
I'm not sure about the taxes. We have a deck now, so I don't think that would change for us anyway, but again i'm not to sure

Thanks! The previous owners took good care of the property - the deck was a mess though, but it looked a lot better once we powerwashed it and re-stained it.
My parents had a cedar deck when I was growing up - it was beautiful!! Not sure what type of wood ours is!
