Torn and in need of advice...
So, I'm at the pet store today looking at puppies. I see they have puggles, which I think are adorable but DH wants a boxer. They do have boxer puppies, of course. They are really sweet too.
Here's dilemma. I have 4, count 'em, 4 cats. I liked the fact that the puggles are small and easier to take care of...plus it wouldn't beat up on my cats. I'm not sure about boxers, although I hear that are fantastic all around dogs, too. Plus, DH wants a boxer so bad. Not sure what to do. What would you guys do?
TIA

Re: Torn and in need of advice...
I wanted a lab and my DH wanted a boxer. Of course I gave in and we got a boxer. I absolutely love him, he is so great. He just turned a year and keeps us laughing everyday. He's very active but a lot of fun. We don't have a cat but my MIL does, he never has had a problem with her. I hate to preach to people but please don't buy a dog in a pet store, we got him from a breeder. Good luck!!

Please do NOT buy from a pet store. Try petfinders.com and you may be able to rescue the dog you want.

First, please do not buy from a pet store. They promote puppy mills. Buy from a reputable breeder or adopt from a shelter.
Also, 4 cats is a lot of animals. If you got a dog in addition would you be able to afford the medical cost?

Re: Torn and in need of advice...
I would not buy a Boxer (or any dog) from a pet store.
As far as getting along with other dogs - our Boxer is great. He's extremely playful and such a sweetie. We've never had a problem with him being aggressive towards other dogs. But he's the only dog we own. Both our dog's breeders though have multiple Boxers living in their houses and have had no problems with them all getting along.
Boxers are prone to heart problems and cancer (which is why we went to a breeder). There are some great Boxer rescue organizations though.
Oh, forgot to mention - Bama HATES cats. If he were raised with cats though, I don't know if it'd be different.

Rescue or go to reputable breeder.

Re: Torn and in need of advice...
I have always had a mix of dogs and cats, and they have always worked it out
WARNING WARNING!!!!
Most likely the kitties will hiss and be unhappy at first, read up on how to introduce them properly, and with time, I am sure they will get along just fine.
I of course agree with everyone else, DO NOT buy from a pet store.
If you can rescue that is best...and you can feel good about doing a great thing..
My biggest bit of advice, do your homework on any animal you are considering.
Good luck!!
