Re: I failed my 1-hour glucose test
It is nothing that you did wrong, it is how your body reacts to the drink they give you. They will have you go for the three hour and I am sure everything will be fine.

Re: I failed my 1-hour glucose test
It doesn't matter if you eat sweets or not. It is how your body breaks down carbs (which turns into sugars). I wasn't a big sweets eater (I love CARBS ) but failed both my 1 hour and 3 hour. I had gestational diabetes

Re: I failed my 1-hour glucose test
Join the club. You did not do anything wrong. At least they are letting you take the 3 hour. My doctor told me not to bother, now I am on a special diet and have to check my blood 4 times a day
Hang in there Most people who fail the 1 hour go onto pass the 3 hour. I am sure you will do fine.
Good Luck

failed my 3 hour too.
A friend of mine had GD with her baby and followed a special diet. She did not need insulin.

Re: I failed my 1-hour glucose test
My friend had this too. The actual reason behind GD is the placenta-for some reason it messes with your bodies normal reaction to processing insulin-here this explains it better than I could
What is gestational diabetes?
Pregnant women who have never had diabetes before but who have high blood sugar (glucose) levels during pregnancy are said to have gestational diabetes. Gestational diabetes affects about 4% of all pregnant women - about 135,000 cases of gestational diabetes in the United States each year.
We don't know what causes gestational diabetes, but we have some clues. The placenta supports the baby as it grows. Hormones from the placenta help the baby develop. But these hormones also block the action of the mother's insulin in her body. This problem is called insulin resistance. Insulin resistance makes it hard for the mother's body to use insulin. She may need up to three times as much insulin.
Gestational diabetes starts when your body is not able to make and use all the insulin it needs for pregnancy. Without enough insulin, glucose cannot leave the blood and be changed to energy. Glucose builds up in the blood to high levels. This is called hyperglycemia.

Re: I failed my 1-hour glucose test
thank you guys for your support and encouragement.
i know i'm making it worse than it really is, but truth is, i am deathly afraid of needles and blood... so the fact that i have draw my own blood 5x a day... and perhaps inject myself with insulin once a day TERRIFIES me.

Re: I failed my 1-hour glucose test
FYI- to draw your blood is a simple machine that does a pinprick in your finger so its not too bad and the needle isn't really visible. You will only be put on insulin if you can not control it with diet. You def. have to be strict with yourself. Your Dr will give you a diet. Stick to it if you don't want insulin!
