Mom's w/ 1 year olds......

How much milk a day does your babies get?

Julia just uses a sippy cup and I try to give her milk twice a day (morning and night), but sometimes she doesn't finish it, it that ok? I just want to make sure she getting enough milk. TIA.

Re: Mom's w/ 1 year olds......

I would say that she gets between 16-24oz a day.

She gets milk in the morning at lunch and before bed. She always drinks the morning cup but sometimes will not finish the lunch or bedtime cup.

I asked my doctor and they said about 24 0z. Less if they have more solids in a day and a little more if they have more.
I guess he has about 16-24 oz.

I give him about 4 oz at a time sometimes in the afternoon).

He isn't a big water drinker and he doesn't like juice.

Re: Mom's w/ 1 year olds......

Wow...my pediatrician told me at my son's 1 year well-check, that 1 year olds do not need any more than 8 oz. of milk a day in total. What they DO need is the calcium, not the milk per say. He said be sure he has yogurt, cheese, broccolli...anything high in calcium. Even calcium fortified OJ. Children 12 months and older should get 90% of their nutrition from solid foods...not milk.

Being that this is my second child and don't follow pediatrician's orders to the letter, I give my son 6 oz. with breakfast, 2 with lunch, 2 with snack, and 6 with dinner...totaling 16 oz. a day. It won't harm him...and it definately doesn't curb his appetite for solids!

I always put a drinkable yogurt in with her milk - she loves it. I put half of the yogurt in with her morning sippy and then the other in her dinnertime sippy.

You're welcome. I think some of us go milk crazy because we're so used to that as being their main source of nutrition for their first year of life. But once they really get into their solids, it's not as necessary. They really just need the calcium which can be found in many different foods!

Re: Mom's w/ 1 year olds......

I have this same issue with Jesse (he's 14 months now). He is just not big on drinking anything, milk or otherwise. I expressed my concerns to my ped and he said, believe it or not, he should have between 0-24 oz per day. Yep, drinking nothing is fine. Jesse knows when he's thirsty and what he needs, and will drink at that time. He gets a lot of fluid in his food. As long as he is wetting diapers and shows no signs of dehydration, there is no reason to worry. Of course, I do anyway and offer him fluids all day long.

Jared always has his yobaby yogurt and cheese. But he drinks anywhere from 12-16 oz of milk a day..one in the morning and one at night.

Re: Mom's w/ 1 year olds......

He's not on milk just yet, but a quick question. Does milk fill them up more than formula? He still drinks quite a bit of formula despite the fact that he eats a lot of solids and I'm concerned he'll be drinking too much milk when the time comes.
