Re: who took this test?
Are you talking about the test with the blood and the sonogram where they look at the babies neck?
I took it because if there was a chance my son had downs I wanted to make sure I was prepared to take care of a special needs child. I think the false postives are not very common from that test.

i took it, however I had no idea it was optional. I thought it was just a routine thing. Everything came out fine.

Re: who took this test?
Are you talking about the AFP test, then amnio?
I opted personally not to take it for 2 reasons after careful consideration and many conversations with my hubby.
1-I wouldn't get the amnio if the results came back abnormal or terminate the pg
2-If the results came back abnormal, since I wouldn't get the amnio, I refused to spend the rest of my pg worrying.
I didn't get any testing done, no triple screen, AFP, nuchal test. I just went for my sono's and blood tests like CF, Thalsemmia (we have in our family) and the scheduled blood tests the dr normally orders.
It really is a personal decision after speaking with your dr and hubby.

Re: who took this test?
It's totally up to you. It sounds like you are talking about the ultra-screen, right? I took it and I'm glad because it has a lower false positive rate then the AFP which you take around 16 weeks.

Re: who took this test?
I had all the screening tests done.. but it's truly a personal choice whether you want to have them done or not ... I see both sides of it and I know it is not an easy decision.
Even though I am 36, I wanted to try to avoid having an amnio due to my previous miscarriage history - so after discussing my options thoroughly with my OB, I opted to take all of the screening tests offered me (ultrascreen also known as NT, nucheal translucency -- the AFP blood test, Level II, etc). We then felt we would make an informed decision based on the results of those tests whether or not I would have an amnio ..
All these tests came back OK, thankfully, so we opted not to have an amnio done..

Re: who took this test?
I did not have the NT test (finger prick and sono) but I did take the AFP because that also tests for spina bfida. They are not mandatory.
I know more people who had false positives than who did not, but thankfully for me everything was OK. I *believe* that most of the fals positives are with the finger prick test.
ETS: I did not have the NT test because if it did come back positive, I would not have gotten the amnio. It is a totally personal choice.

Re: who took this test?
I had both tests. Thankfully I didn't have any positives at all. It was VERY stessful to have the NT w/ the finger prick- the waiting had my in agony. But I'm glad we did it.

Re: who took this test?
I had the ultrascreen (NT) because it was recommended due to my age (35). Thankfully all of the results were fine. I don't think I would have tested further (no amnio) anyway. I actually debated getting the NT but I'm glad I did. Since it was non-invasive (other than the finger prick) and very low risk, I decided to have it done. They also did genetic counseling along with the NT, which was interesting, but not surprising. We have no history of anything nor are either of us high risk for anything genetic.

Same here!! However truth be told I would have done it even if I knew it was optional.

Same exact thing here for the same reasons. I would not terminate regardless so I was just content with what nature gave me and put my faith in the big guy that everything would be okay.
