If you rent in NYC come in!
I know most on this board are in LI and looking for homes but I was wondering if there are any NYC renters. I love my building but if I want to renew my lease it will be at $300 more per month on top of an already ridiculous rent for a small ONE bedroom! Anyway - wondering if anyone lives in a nice building with a reasonable rent that the can reccommend - preferably on the east side - murray hill or midtown east, sutton place etc...
24hr Doorman a must - gym and roof deck would be nice...
Thanks in advance

Re: If you rent in NYC come in!
I used to live in Plaza east on 34th between 1st and 2nd- they never raised our rent more then $50
no gym- but doorman and roof deck
when I was looking I just walked around the neighborhood and went into any building I liked and asked if they had any openings
so we didn't have to pay a fee

Re: If you rent in NYC come in!
Are you looking for another 1BR or a 2BR? I live in a Glenwood bldg on the UES in a DM bldg with gym & roof and we love it. We have a 1BR and they just increased our rent $170. we just inquired about a 2BR and the woman laughed and said just stay put, rents are crazy right now. In my bldg, for one extra BR it would almost DOUBLE my rent
Anyway, I was checking out this site bc this is the broker we used last time (no fee) and it seems that there are still some reasonably priced apts out there. Broker
ETA: Good luck!

We used to live in a high rise w/ doorman, gym, and roofdeck - but it is located in the financial district. "The Crest" located at 63 Wall St. Great building though - opened Sept 2004, so all new appliances, etc. Not sure what the rent is going for these days...we moved in when it was brand new so there were a lot of incentives.

Re: If you rent in NYC come in!
I don;t live in the city anymore--- but my old building has really nice size 1BRs and the rent was not too bad. We moved out almost a year ago and our rent was $2450 for a doorman elevator building.
It's on 63rd street b/t 2nd and 3rd... It's called the Renior House and the exact address is 225 East 63rd. They always have a sign outside with the brokers # with available apts. There is a lot of turnover because it's young people and older people.

We're on 44th St between 2nd and 3rd. (230 East 44th St) - 24 hour doorman but no roofdeck or gym. I think they raised out rent $60 last year ..... We're in a large studio on the PH level - There are many 1 and 2 bedrooms in the building as well .........

Re: If you rent in NYC come in!
Is this an apartment building or a coop/condo building?
If the entire building is apartments, I thought it could only go up 4%?

Re: If you rent in NYC come in!
Thanks ladies so much! I am going to look into these suggestions.
We have been walking into buildings - that is how we found ours. It is unbelievable though the prices have gone through the ROOF! Yesterday - in two buildings I was told one bedrooms START at $3900/month Seriously, this is nuts. When I moved into my building a little less than three years ago my rent was $2600/month. Now it is $2800 and they want to raise it to $3300. I'm sorry, but that is insane! What is even more insane is that if you were to walk in off the street and rent my apt you would pay even more.
Legally they can raise it this much because the "market regulated" price for the apartment is much higher - like over $4000. When you sign your lease every year you acknowledge this. So they can't raise it over a certain percentage over that market rent but they can since they are technically charging below that.
We are looking for a large one bedroom or, ideally, a junior four that has been converted. Thanks ladies!

Re: If you rent in NYC come in!
I live in the Chesapeake on 94th at 1st Ave. It's much further north of where you're looking, but still on the east side. We have doormen, a gym, and sun terrace. It's a great building, and I would say our rent is reasonable for the size of our apt.
