Trader Joe's - great product review and bad news . . .

Well, I will start with the good . . .

I tried their piled high apple pie- it is delicious. It is only 4 points for 1/8 of the pie. I warmed it up and it tasted just like homemade. It is not in the frozen section- it is by the bakery items. Be careful if you are going to try it- there are 2 apple pies. One has a crumb topping and is much more fattening. It is in a domed package and is labeled "piled high apple pie". The Nutrition info will be 190 calories, 5 grams of fat and 2 grams of fiber.

Ok, bad news for the Banana crisp lovers. For those of you that might not already know, they have been MIA for awhile because they were redoing the product's packaging. I thought "whatever." I was told they will not be available for at least a month if not more. Well I spoke to a worker there and he basically told me "You didn't hear it from me, but the reason they are not available and won't be for a while is because they are re-doing the Nutritional information." It turns out they under calculated the nutritional values and are not as lowfat as the label claims.

Here is the info from Hungry Girl to back it up:

Copying and pasting directly from the site:

***We've been warning you about our suspicions that the nutritional info on Trader Joe's Banana CRISPS is off. According to test results from two independent labs, these supposed 40-calorie, 1g-of-fat snacks were found to have about FOUR times the calories and SIX times the fat as the package states! This information was sent to us by subscribers, along with the lab results. We're just reporting the info here, people. **

Considering I have been eating 2 servings a day at least 4 times a week and counting it as 1 point based on the NI, I am pretty ticked to hear this . . . . I knew it had to be too good to be true . . .

Re: Trader Joe's - great product review and bad news . . .

I know this is an old thread, but apparently it wasn't just the Banana Crisps. My go-to snack on WW is the Trader Joe's Thai Vegetable Gyoza. They are these scrumptious little veggie dumplings that were labeled as 2 dumplings for 1 point.

Well, after they "redid the packaging", the nutrition information came back as 1 point for EACH dumpling. It does't seem like a huge difference, but it is when you've been eating 6 dumplings and only counting it as 3 points!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
