Re: Are you going to have "help" when baby is born?
Well as it looks right now my in laws will be here. They were scheduled for 1 week after my due date but little miss hasn't arrived yet and they'll be here Tuesday. My mom also lives nearby so she'll be around a lot.

I think my MOm is planning on comming to NY but sometimes that is more stressful LOL
DH will try to help, that I know. I'm prepared to go it alone for some of the time. I look forward to it.

Re: Are you going to have "help" when baby is born?
I will be doing the opposite. I will be staying at my inlaws with the baby and DH when my little one arrives. Me and my mother in law are like best friends, so her help and knowledge will be greatly needed and appreciated. Not to mention the ablility for me to catch some ZZZZZZ's if needed! I will stay until i feel ready to go home.

Re: Are you going to have "help" when baby is born?
I have a baby nurse for two weeks - in addition my parents and in laws have been around this week to help me out - and will be around more when the nurse leaves.
Ladies - trust me, DON'T DENY THE HELP - even if your MIL is annoying or your mom is overbearing - it is good to have family around to do food shopping, or let you shower, whatever you need. You are going to be tired (even if you have a vaginal delivery) and it is a huge (good but huge) adjustment - the support is wonderful.

Re: Are you going to have "help" when baby is born?
I had no help besides DH who took 3 weeks off to stay with me. Honestly, I was very happy with things that way. My mother or his mother here would have probably made me nuts. We did just fine and it was an important time for me and DH to adjust and bond with our baby.

Re: Are you going to have "help" when baby is born?
This is one of the reasons why we arent TTC yet. We are not lucky enough to have any family etc... that could help us out. So, I am waiting until I feel ready for the challenge. You will be great though, and your DH will learn.

My hubby was around for a few days and then my Mom helped out and my girlfriends stopped in constantly to help with my other kids or to just drop off food.

Re: Are you going to have "help" when baby is born?
Yeah, I'm using this new service called "Me, Myself, and I" . No seriously though, DH will be off for the first week, then he's going to take a week & work from home. My Mom will be over a lot in the beginning, so that will help. I'm actually looking foward to it just being the 2 of us so we can reallly get adjusted & bond w/ our baby.

I could not agree more!!! I had a baby nurse for the same amount of time- she was awesome and showed us so much. I have a maid who comes once a week. DH was off two weeks from work, which was helpful. My MIL comes around every other day and my mother comes once a week. They haven't been so helpful, but I surrounded myself with great help!

Re: Are you going to have "help" when baby is born?
My husband works from home and I will be home also. We have been able to share responsibiltities although I am doing the nightshift since he has to work. The first week between my mom, my mil and fil we had someone here everyday.
Definately don't say no to help!!! Now three weeks later, my mom is over at least 2times a wek, my mil once a week and my fil and his wife once a week.
When they are here, I have been able to go out and do errands, get a mani and pedi and just get some sleep.
every little bit helps!!!!

Re: Are you going to have "help" when baby is born?
Yes we will have lots of help. DH and I own a 2 family home and my grandparents live downstairs from us so my grandma will be around. My Inlaws live next door, so they'll be close and my mom lives about 10 mins away. Plus DH will be home for 2 weeks. I'm really happy to have all this help. I'm sure we'll need it.

Re: Are you going to have "help" when baby is born?
DH took 2 weeks off from work...he's so eager to help, however we'll see how things go after the first few nights..lol
I know my mom and brothers will be around alot in the beg. esp. with my dad leaving...we gotta stick together..
I know my MIL is gonna think she can sleep her everynight and try and take over.. Hopefully, she wont get carried away..
And we all know how she invited her extended family and there KIDS here this week...
Im hoping that everyone will take into consideration whats going on, and take a step back... I really wanna spend ALONE time with the baby and DH while hes home from work..
And I think its real important for me my mom and brothers to be together that week...

Re: Are you going to have "help" when baby is born?
My mom was here in Chicago for two weeks. It was great bc DH went back to work after 4 days. My ILs live nearby, so if I needed anything I would just call them.

Re: Are you going to have "help" when baby is born?
My mom was here for two weeks and then it was all about me. We moved away from our friends in Texas when I was 5 months preggo, so I don't really know many people here. So after DH went back to work after a week and my mom left, I was on my own during the day.

I was very fortunate to have my mil help out with my first.. Unfortunately this time around, I don't think anyone will be here to help... My MIL has since passed, and my mom is in NY helping my sister with her two kids while she goes to school for nursing, so I am left with my dad and my DH.. lol.. I am sure I will be able to call my dad and have him take my son to the park or something, but that only gives me a few minutes reprieve!

Yes I was living with my IL's at the time and they are both home to help. DH only had a week off and with my complications I def. needed all the help I could get!!!!

Re: Are you going to have "help" when baby is born?
I don't think I will have much help. We live in NJ and all of our family is on LI. DH will probably take a week off, but after that I think I will be on my own. Now that we have a baby on the way I wish we had more family and friends nearby to help out. That said, I still don't think I'd want anyone to come and stay with us for a while. It would just be nice to have family nearby who could come over for a little bit and then go back home.

Re: Are you going to have "help" when baby is born?
My mother had the best intentions, to stay with us for 2 weeks when Andrew was born but after 1 day she went home. It was too stressful to have anyone else in the house. Especially, for my DH who felt like he had to cater to her. DH was off for 2 weeks after Andrew was born.
We both realize that with baby #2 we're definately going to need a little extra help because Andrew will be almost 2 when he/she is born. Let's hope my mother doesn't drive us nuts again!

Re: Are you going to have "help" when baby is born?
My mom will come, but my MIL may also come- she lives out of the country. My apartment is too small for the two of them, so if MIL comes, then mom will come when she leaves. So I will definitely have help.

Re: Are you going to have "help" when baby is born?
My husband will be taking some time off and working from home after the baby.
I have my MIL that lives a 5 minute walk away and my mom that lives 15 minutes away - so i know we will be surrounded my plenty of help when we need it.
