Cheeses? Who knows what's ok and what's not
I've heard something about avoiding soft cheeses, but then I read only if something is unpasteurized is it a problem. Can anybody clarify? Specifically, how about feta cheese? Thanks

Re: Cheeses? Who knows what's ok and what's not
they contain a bacteria (I believe its called listeria) and it has been known to contribute to causing miscarriages.
Also any thing that is not pasturized is BAD. Like a lot of mayo is not pasturized, but Hellmans is, so you can eat Hellmans.
No deli meats either - they have listeria too.

Re: Cheeses? Who knows what's ok and what's not
I ate everything in moderation with all 3 of my pregnancies and thank god, I had no problems. With my oldest son, I ate turkey sandwiches like it was nobody's business. My OB told me that as long as I got the sandwich or coldcuts from a reputable place where the meats were in controlled temps, then it was okay.

I was told that the soft cheese MAY be unpasteurized, whcih is why you should stay away. If the soft cheese says pasteurized, then you are fine. in restaurants, they never know so I never eat it out.

Oh yes- I just don't eat soft cheese when I'm out. I live in Manhattan, I eat more out than I do at home

Re: Cheeses? Who knows what's ok and what's not
If you buy cheese at the grocery store just make sure it is pastuerized. I have been loving feta on my salads.........it's safe when pastuerized
