Does anyone work with a sad sack?
Someone who complains constantly...over and over...repeats things.....and no solution you offer is good enough? I am to the point where I just nod and listen..I feel bad, but what else can I do?

Re: Does anyone work with a sad sack?
I used to. I came to realize that misery loves company and the more I continued to listen and gave my advice....it wasnt working.
Eventually I had to stop talking to this person...she was bringing me down too.

Re: Does anyone work with a sad sack?
Oh yes!!
Her name is Janet and everything is always bad. Here's a sampling of what our conversations are like:
Me: "Isn't it beautiful out?"
Janet: "Tomorrow's supposed to rain and be cold again."
Me: "It's bonus day!! Isn't that great?"
Janet: "I wish they didn't take out so many taxes."
Me: "Here's a million dollars for you - tax free!!"
Janet: "But it's in twenties, I really prefer tens."

Re: Does anyone work with a sad sack?
Oh yes....and it's soooo annoying. You can't have a conversation with this guy without him talking about his messed up ankle or knee or whatever, he's ALWAYS sick with something, or an old military injury (we have serious doubts that he did anything in the military except SEE bad things), if you're pg he's having TTC troubles, if you're having MIL issues, his are FAR worse, etc etc.
It's soooo draining talking to him that everyone avoids him.

I used too. Then they fired her
I pretty much just stopped listening to her or would just tune her out.

Re: Does anyone work with a sad sack?
um, yes. one sad sack and one borderline sad sack. the borderline one is sad b/c she's young and she is never going to be satisfied. she wants more $$, more vacatiion time, etc. the other one is older and just needs to retire already. i don't listen to her or ask her how things are...

Re: Does anyone work with a sad sack?
YEEEEEEEEEES! I can't stand it! Whenever she says something, and you say, "Wow, that's great!" or "that's nice!", she immediately comes back with, "No it's not, actually, it's horrible because blah, blah, blah......"

Re: Does anyone work with a sad sack?
Ugh I totally do on a daily basis. I can't stand it and neither can the other people on my team. She is not only negative personally- but in her job as well! Actually I hear she is being called the the VP's office this afternoon because he is fed up too. Hmmmmmm

Re: Does anyone work with a sad sack?
I don't work with one, but I have a friend who is one.
After talking to her on the phone, I usually want to jump in front of a bus.
