Hard boiled egg question

Does anybody know how to easily get the shell off of a hard boiled egg? Whenever I hard boil my eggs, the shell always sticks! It's so annoying!!!!

I usually run the eggs in cold water for a few minutes, then peel them off. Sometimes there are still little pieces of the shell but I run it through water again, dry it off then it is usually fine.

Run cold water on them and peel the shell off.

I put them in cold water immediately after taking them out of the boiling water and let them sit there to cool for a while. Supposedly that keeps the yolk yellow, and I've found it also makes the shell easier to peel.

Before I start boiling them, I put salt in the water. Then as soon as they are done, I run them under cold water, and put them in the fridge. They always come off easily. I'm not sure what helps it, but something does!

Re: Hard boiled egg question

You have to use eggs that you bought acouple of days ago. Don't try to boil a fresh egg, amkes the shell stick to the egg. Once you have boiled the egg, cold water right away until cool. I used to work in a kitchen I am an ols pro at hard boiled eggs!!

I always run them under cold water while peeling, but I saw on one of the cooking shows, that if you add salt to the water it helps the shell come right off. Haven't tried it yet though.

Hmmmm.... what you all said is what I do and it doesn't work Chat Icon
Maybe it's because I'm not peeling them right away? After cooling them in cold water I put them in the fridge. Maybe putting them in the fridge is messing them up? (I eat them as snacks, so I don't want to peel them until I'm ready to eat them.)

I add a tablespoon or two of vinegar to the water, and ususally have no problems with peeling.

Re: Hard boiled egg question

I hadn't heard those last 2 suggestions before. I'll have to try them. Thanks!
