Did anyone NOT do the nursery until the baby was born?

I want to make the nursery very gender-specific (and since I have a feeling they are 2 of one gender) I really want to hold off. I was planning on "designing" the room and then once I give birth then having DH paint and then while I'm on maternity leave decorate and get the nursery ready. Am I crazy in thinking I could do this or do you think I should just paint it a neutral color now? Chat Icon Also I want to hold off on getting the bedding until I know too.

Not sure what to do - what did everyone else do that didn't find out the gender?

I think you will be fine waiting. My brother and SIL waited until after my niece was born to do her room. She stayed in a bassinet in their room at first.

I didn't find out the gender but we already had planned the nursery in purple and green anyway.
I think it would be hectic to try and do it after you have both babies...but if you both have help I am sure you could do it!

I was in contract for my new house toward the end of my pregnancy, so I didn't bother to decorate a room although I did order the furniture. We closed when Katherine was 2 weeks old and began work on her room first; we moved in when she was 5 weeks.

I don't think a nursery is necessary in the beginning since most people have the baby (babies!) in their room to start. I was kind of sad that I didn't have a cute room to look at to get me psyched up for the arrival...eh, but what's the big deal now?! I say wait if you really want to! Good luck!

We waited and we did not know what the sex was of the baby. The room was yellow so I figured that would work for either. I ordered furniture from e-bay and had it delivered to my moms. My co-workers gave me a gender neutral bedding set. Now Sydney is 5 months old and her room is fine for now but I am looking forward to making it more "hers" when she is old enough to pick out colors and when she has her favorite things - whether it be hello kitty or barbie or whatever.

We were going to do this, but Im anal and I want it done now. We are just going with a sky on the ceiling, a baby green on the walls and Im doing wallies and stick ons on the walls and all the trim a light yellow. I may throw some purple accents in there but I have to see if it will be too many colors painted.
