Spinoff to Live Out Nanny- Who drops their children off at someone's house?
A friend of mine leaves her baby with her friend's aunt who watches him and 2 other children at her own personal home. I was speaking with DH's Grandma about this and she said her neighbor currently watches children in her home too.
How common is this and are a lot of people doing that these days? Is it a better solution than a place like Tutortime?

when I was working, I did this with my daughter. My mom knew someone so I left her there.
I only paid 70 per week and my daughter was from 11-3, I will do it again when I find a job.
I had no complaints.

Re: Spinoff to Live Out Nanny- Who drops their children off at someone's house?
This is a very common solution better known as in-home child care. I drop Jake off at my Dad's house where his GF watches 3 other children. We save alot of money this way and you kind of get the best of both worlds. It's like having an in-home babysitter because your child gets more personal attention and is in a home setting. But you also get the benefits (and cons i.e. 1 kid gets sick, they all get sick) of the socialization that day care centers provide.
Before we decided on using my Dad & his GF, we considered a neighbor who also does the same thing. She wanted $250/wk.

sounds like a lot of people are using someone they know. Im glad you said this b/c since we dont really have anyone that we know and I was wondering about credentials and how all that would work.

I chose a center rather than an in home daycare because I feel more comfortable with her in a place where everything is monitored and parents are always dropping by, etc.
I don't feel comfortable leaving her in someone's private home.
If you knew and trusted someone, like a friend or family member, I would feel differently, but I don't know anybody.

If I didn't have this woman who is a friend of the family I think I would have shopped around and interviewed alot of places. I know of a few family daycares that are registered with the state and people who work there are registered cuz I was going to start looking so some friends gave me numbers and places that they knew of. Most of them had 3 to 4 people working and all of them were state Licensed what I like about family day care is that there aren't as many kids. Everyone had their own preference of what they would feel more comfy with.
I went on IVILLAGE.com and I typed in daycare centers and they gave me a list of questions to ask if you need help with interviewing.

If you live in Suffolk there is the Child Care Council of Suffolk in Commack that lists all the "legit" people who provide in home daycare I think.
