Any suggestions of getting Abby to sleep more at night?
She gets up to go to the bathroom and as a puppy I know she cant hold it too long, so its ok and thank goodness shes learned to wake up and let us know she has to go.
BUT....we cant get her to go down at night and it takes a while to get her to stop crying. Even when we tire her out, she falls asleep but then wakes up as soon as she gets in that darn crate.
And DH is basically sleeping on the floor with her to get her to stay in the crate when she stirs and not start crying.
we are not getting much sleep.
I knwo its gonna take some time, but any suggestions?
someone mentioned a ticking alarm clock in there with her? Anyone try this?

Put a hot water bottle in with her when she goes to bed. The warmth makes her think of her mom. And yes a ticking clock nearby, like the heartbeat of the momma too. Also maybe an old t-shirt of yours or DH's to make her feel like you are close by.

I gave up on crate training after one night because I couldn't listen to Molly crying. How far is the crate from your bedroom?
Is there a room that you can gate off for Abby that she can have to herself?
It will get easier!!!!

We have the crate at the end of our bed at night!!
And during the day we gate off the kitchen so she can run around in there and not have to spend the day in the crate.
I dont think I can trust her though to run around free at night. She tries to eat EVERYTHING, and I would be so filled with worry she would choke on something, fall from something etc. And She is even worse if we leave her in the kitchen at night. She wants to be close to us, but the bedroom is a hazzard waiting to happen...
Im so confused as far as what the right thing to do is.
What did you do with Molly at night when she was so tiny?

Re: Any suggestions of getting Abby to sleep more at night?
I know. The first few weeks are really rough. We have a bedroom on the first floor that was her room. We had it gated off. First we tried the crate and that didn't work. We left her in there with her bed, water, toys etc. and she was fine. There wasn't much in that room for her to get into though. A couch, tv, coffee table etc.
I would try to stick to the crating and see if it gets any easier. I remember Tanaholic sleeping next to the crate for awhile but then Lola started to get used to it.
I wish I could help more on the crate training but I can't. Sorry!

Re: Any suggestions of getting Abby to sleep more at night?
Honestly, I didnt crate either of my dogs. After two nights of them crying and barking, i couldnt take it anymore. I let both Dino and Louie sleep in the bed with us when they were only little tiny taters. I do not believe in crate training at all.
