vacation or kitchen redo?
We arent sure what to do we cant really do both if we go on vacation its going to be to arizona and california we have an opportunity to stay in a 5 star resort for a discounted price OR redo the kitchen they only thing holding me back is that we havent had a vacation in awhile and we dont have enough money that I can get my dream kitchen but we can do a pretty nice job and resale value is what we are looking for since we are going to be moving soon, Im confused Dh wants vacation all the way but apart of me thinks that the kitchen is a smarter move because of investments and long term. What would you do?

Re: vacation or kitchen redo?
You could always take the vacation next year with the equity you get out of the house and the benefit of the updated kitchen! Maybe compromise and take a mini vacation this year?

Re: vacation or kitchen redo?
Believe it or not..I say Vacation. Since you will be moving, your time starring at a not so appealing kitchen is limited. Unless you're about to do a deluxe kitchen..its not really worth the time,$$ & aggrivation. I know plenty of ppl that bought homes & ripped out the "nice, decent" kitchen in order to please their own taste. Don't put off life..next yr will bring new things..maybe a new home, children, new projects..God forbid sickness(you never know). Vacations know how to rejuvinate relationships too not saying anything is wrong with your..NOT AT ALL... just saying that relaxed, carefree time is always welcome but hard to find.

Re: vacation or kitchen redo?
We were faced with a similar dilemma. We dedcided to redo the kitchen. Ultimately, we figured that while we had the extra $$$ we should invest it in our co-op.
The good news is that after viewing all the options we decided to do all the work ourselves and saved $7000. By doing this we had $$$ for a trip and some left over to put towards the bathroom renovation.

I would redo the kitchen, even though you're moving soon if you think that your resale value will be significantly higher by redoing the kitchen, I think its worth it and maybe you can take an even nicer vacation later.

I say vacation, only because my mentality is always "life's too short...."
If I was going to be staying in the house longterm and really hated the kitchen, I would chose kitchen.

I agree. As someone who is looking to buy soon, I have eliminated houses with brand new kitchens because they are not my taste and I know that the work the current owner has put into them is reflected in the price.

Re: vacation or kitchen redo?
I'm saying vacation because I'm going with the "life's too short" mentality. You never know what happens in life - if you have the opportunity to take a vacation - do so! As you said, you're planning on moving soon, and do you really want to go through all the work, stress, etc when it's very possible that the buyer will just re-do it anyway?
Live life! Take the vacation!

I say vacation! You've been through a lot with becoming a mom, the AR, BFing, etc. You deserve some time away from home to relax and enjoy your family
