Home for Sale in Plainview
http://www.mlsli.com/unidetails.cfm?mlnum=1755078&typeprop=1&bn=1&CFID=9255310&CFTOKEN=77009602
MLS Listing number is 1755078
My parents are selling my grandparent's house in Plainview. Great house, 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, Plainview/Old Bethpage School District. It has a full basement which could be turned into an apartment. Nice private area, no houses across the street, only a field.

My Dad lives in Plainview. When I posted my Mint ++/ TOTALLY REDONE house here for sale in East Northport (taxes only $3800 in a top school district) all I got was how expensive it is despite the fact that it was very much priced to sell for the area.
I wish you luck but I'm not sure how many people on THIS forum are willing to spend that much for a fixer upper. Your parents will definitely get a buyer in Plainview. Are you near one of the synagogues? My Dad has been offered cash for his house three times because he lives very close to two synagogues.
Good luck.

One person's trash is another's treasure...and vice verse. In other words, not everyone wants to pay "top dollar" for (what the HO considers) a "Mint++" house...only to have to rip out the previous HOs taste to replace it with theirs. Especially when the house or property is small or if there is less than 1.5 baths - then you have even less to work with.
JMO, of course.

Re: Home for Sale in Plainview
I agree, I am buying a house that is in such bad condition cosmetically that it appraised for $200K more than I bought it for My cost to fix it up will be less than $100K as I have connections in the industry and can get all supplies at a contractor's discount. Most people don't have the connection or ability to do that amount of work and houses that need that much work usually go unsold for months (I watched my new house sit on the market for four months before I put in a bid).
I lived in Plainview for 34 years (up until last year) and have walked most of the streets. It's an area that even most professional couples who are first time home buyers are priced out of these days. Those that have the money for the area are usually not the type that want to work on the house or, after paying Plainview prices, will not have money left over, unless they have something to sell.
Right now there are 5 houses on Jamaica Ave for sale (within one block of each other). The one that sold the fastest was one that was flipped... new siding, windows, kitchen, bath, paint and hardwood floors redone. It was done cheaply but boy does it look neat and clean. It's also not the cheapest house for sale... it sold quickly because most buyers don't want to completely overhall a house.
Will this house sell, of course, there is a buyer for every house but it will take longer to sell and the longer it is on the market the less the bids will be. It is more of a buyers market today than it was two months ago and definitely a year ago.
ETA: There is a lot of inventory for sale in Plainview right now and that helps the buyer even more.

Re: Home for Sale in Plainview
Thanks for the good luck wishes everyone. I was being to think maybe I shouldn't have posted it, don't want to create drama.
Anyway, I think Jamacia Ave is right near the house. It is on Miriam right off of Fresno.
It's not in horrible shape, my aunt and uncle live there now. There are some repairs that need to be done, but it's not falling apart or anything. It has three large bedrooms, which I think will help them and the fact that it can be a mother/daughter should also.
Thanks again.

Re: Home for Sale in Plainview
Jamaica Ave in Plainview is a main street. I went down it the other day ( I live in Syosset off South OysterBay road) and there are 6 houses for sale, however personally I think they will be hard to sell because of the location.
When we were looking for houses we were only looking in Plainview. We thought that we couldn't afford Syosset, we ended up there and I will tell you, We did not have to do much work, only cosmetic changes.... painting and putting in granite in the kitchen. I think it is all timing and we were very lucky with our house, Now there are 4 houses up for sale on our block and they are going for 1-200,000 more than what we paid...
Personally I grew up in OldBethpage, and the area is great to live in. Sometimes you pay for the area not the house...
I think the price for this house is good for the area...
