I flew a ton with my daughter before the age of 2 and she sat on my lap most of the flights except for flights longer than 2 hours. Otherwise she got her own seat. A lot of people disagree with the children sitting on your laps and what not, but it was my personal choice. they do have now seat belts for the child to attach to yours for better safety. The airlines, don't something you buy yourself.

In any case, a 3hr. flight should be perfectly fine with him on your lap and if not you can always get a sea for him on the way home.

I am going to Disney next month and we didnt get Hayley her own seat. There are 6 adults to hold her for a 2 1/2 hour flight to Orlando. Now if I was going on a longer flight (5 or 6 hours) I would definetly get her a seat.

Re: Flying with a 1 yr old

We took a 3 hour flight to Florida in May with Alex, and I never purchased a seat for her. The flight ended up being empty so we put her carseat over there, but I really don't think it would have been a big deal to keep her on my lap... just remember, don't preboard in case the flight gets delayed. Let Ryan walk around the airport as much as possible before boarding, and give him a bottle while taking off and landing to make sure his ears are ok. Otherwise, hopefully he'll sleep! Alex did!

We did get Miranda her own seat because our flight was 4 hours she was 7 months old. Part of the reason for that was we wanted the row to ourselves and didn't want to deal with having a stranger sitting next to us while trying to figure out how to handle her or make bottles, etc. She was OK. We're flying to AZ in 2 weeks and its less than 2 hours and we did not get her a seat. I think you just have to go and hope for the best. Bring him snacks, toys, maybe a poratable DVD player to watch episodes of shows he likes, etc. I'm sure he'll do great. Don't let MIL stress you out.

We did the same thing. John was about 4.5 months when we flew to Vegas. He only stayed in the carseat for 2 hours and they we held him (helped that we had 6 other family members with us). When we flew in July we again bought him a seat. This time he didnt stay in the seat at all (once again gotta love family members who travel with you lol). I get him a seat because I cannot stand when people see a baby on a plane and give you a look of death, like you brought a cackaling rooster with you. We are flying next Wednesday to Orlando.

I just got back from a trip with Jordana- we flew to California. The same thingi happened to us. I know she is much younger than Alex- but chances are there will be some empty seats.

My sis flew a 17 hr flight from Alaska with her 1 yr old and she did awesome.

She slept most of the way and just gave her a bottle during take off/landing so the pressure wouldnt bother her.

We flew with Claire when she was 8 months and again when she was 21 months and had no issues either time. The flights were 2.5 and 4 hours and one time we bought a seat the other we didnt. Try to coordinate his nap around the flight if possble and bring with you a few small toys or treats he had never had before. Im sure he will be fine and it will go smooth

marissa - I have taken three trips with Talia already and never got her a seat. I am taking her to Israel next month (13 hour flight) and not getting her a seat...its pointless since she will want to be held anyway!
