Forest Hills has lots of coops and rentals with a good mix of single people and families. I like how there's a "main street" feel to it too.
Long Island City has become popular but still can feel very industrial but you can't beat the commute into Manhattan.
Astoria and Jackson Heights are popular areas too.

Ditto. Bayside is also really nice and the commute to NYC is really good.

Agree with the others....
Forest Hills (I live in FH and LOVE IT!) Astoria Bayside
If you are commuting to Manhattan than you really can't beat Forest Hills and Astoria. My commute is 30 min door to door.

Re: What are the young professional areas of Queens to live in?
I thought I answered this yesterday, is it on another board?
DH and I live in Astoria, its a great neighborhood. There are lots of restaurants, shopping, etc. We also live a few blocks from astoria park which is really nice. Parking is never a problem.
We also looked in Forest Hills, which I do love, but there are lots of high-rise apartment buildings there and parking would have been a huge issue which is part of the reason we chose Astoria.
I feel like Astoria has more of a neighborhood feel, as there are lots of houses and the apartment buildings are small. We live in a 3-story building with 6 apartments.

Re: What are the young professional areas of Queens to live in?
Def LIC, Astoria, FH and parts of Bayside.
When I moved out of NYC, I went to Astoria and I loved it - I was in the Broadway area. From where I lived in Astoria - I had 15 minutes to 59th street and about 25 minutes to my office!!
I looked at LIC but it is still up and coming and wasn't ready yet at that time.
FH was too far for me - I would have had more than 30 minutes (probably 45minutes) commute and at that time didn't want that.
Bayside wasn't for me since i don't drive and din't want to LIRR or bus it to work - I wanted a subway commute.

Long Island City - one stop to Grand Central. I think there are 20 different luxury apartment buildings going up within a 5 minute walk from my apt - it's crazy how much development is going on!
