Anyone quit smoking?

DH quit as of this morning and is having a hard time. He wants to stick with it but doesn't think he can do it cold turkey. What helped you quit and never go back? Thanks!

Re: Anyone quit smoking?

The only reason I was able to quit was because I was pregnant. It's really tough and I can't guarantee that I won't go back. I just hope that I don't.

Acupuncture helped me a lot.

Re: Anyone quit smoking?

I read this book "the easy way to quit smoking" by Allen Carr.

I also used www.quitnet.com

Six months smoke free!

I quit about 9 years ago and frankly I think I was just tired of smoking because I threw my cigarettes and lighter away one day and never looked back!! Strange huh? but i guess whatever works!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I cut myself back very slowly - switched to lights - cut back to 3 a day. Eventually I quit altogether. I'm not sure if its just me, but I can enjoy an occassional cigarette (lets say a few a YEAR) and not get hooked, but that process took at least 5 years

The time I quit before now (i quit for about 1.5 years before 9/11) was by calling the NY Smokers quit line. It helped, but then with everything that happened that horrible day, I went back.

This time was giving it up for Lent, and so far so good

I didn't quit but my daughter did. She quit by using the patch.

I decided cut down and become a social smoker. I also stopped buying packs of cigarettes. When you have to bum off people it makes it a lot easier to quit.

Then I got pregnant (hoping your hubby doesn't do that). But once I turned into a social smoker, it was easier to stop all together when I got pregnant.

I quit cold turkey about 6 years ago for 2 years then slowly went back. Went back to about 1/2 a pack a day. Then decided to do it only socially (or with wine). Quit completely when i became pregnant. Have not had the urge for it one bit.

Re: Anyone quit smoking?

My FMIL is a chimney...

she started taking Welbutrin on Feb 24th, and hasn't had a cig since.

Welbutrin is an anti-depressant, but for some reason, it makes you lose the desire to smoke. Her MD prescribed it.

We're all really proud of her.
