repost from fhf ( ashleys fundraiser now with story about her)
We are having a dinner dance on: June 20, 2006 at the American Legion Hall on Grove Place in Babylon from 7:00 pm to 10:00pm
Today, you can make an immediate difference in Ashley’s life. I am putting together baskets to raffle off the evening of the event. I am asking for a donation at this time of items that can be used as raffles or included in the raffle baskets. I am also looking for catered food donations as well so that out of pocket costs can be kept to a minimum. I hope we can count on you to help. Please send the most generous gift you can, as soon as possible.
With grateful appreciation
i just want to add its $20 dollars for admission and they will have a Dj, food and a auction. I just wanted you all to know if you can come that will be great if not I will understand.

Fundraiser for Ashley
June 20, 2006
In December 2005, 10 days before Christmas, our family was struck by the most devastating news. My niece, Ashley, who is 4 years old was diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia). While at the time we were shocked by such tragic news, our hearts were also broken.
Let me share with you the story of Ashley….Ashley’s mother, Lisa, is a single mom of two daughters. Their lives will never be the same. Their week begins very early on a Monday morning when big sister Christine is picked up at 7:00 by her grandfather and driven to school. Once Christine is gone, Lisa prepares Ashley for their long ride to the Stony Brook Clinic where each week medical professionals need to reenter the little port in her chest in order test her blood. They remain there for hours for the results before they can begin her chemotherapy. She receives an IV chemo as well as an oral chemo. Then they head home as quickly as possible so she can recover from the nausea and headaches from their long day. The next day, Christine goes off again to school while Lisa and Ashley are off again to the hospital. On Tuesdays, Ashley undergoes a bone marrow test to see if the cancer has progressed. She also goes under anesthesia to receive a spinal in which they put in more chemo. Once again, they head home from a long day. On Wednesdays and Thursdays, they head out to Stony Brook to receive yet more chemo. On the days Ashley is home, she receives many different types of medication. After her first 30 days on treatment, Ashley developed a very high fever which kept her in the hospital with her mother at her beside for three weeks. Big sister Christine stayed with friends and family in order not to miss any school.
Unfortunately at this time, Lisa is unable to work while she cares for her daughter. This particular treatment for ALL will continue for 3 ½ years. Although she does have medical insurance, the costs and needs for this family go way beyond what medical insurance covers.
I’m seeking your help as a community for donations in order to put together a phenomenal fundraiser for this family. My goal is to lessen Lisa’s financial burdens and allow her to concentrate solely on Ashley’s care as well as trying to maintain some semblance of family life.
