Yanks re-sign (overpay) Matsui 4yr/52mil
I would have thought the Yankees would learn from their mistakes and started taking on some fiscal responsibility considering their luxury tax fee goes up every year.
They are giving this guy 13 mil a year for 4 years for what I feel are average stats.
Yeah he had 116 RBIs playing on a 200mil payroll. But he only batted .306 and hit 23HRs in a little league park.
Outside Yankee Stadium he batted .290 with just 8 HRs and an OPS of under .800.
He is also a very average outfielder at best. He won't be winning any gold gloves. He has no speed (base stealing). Not a clubhouse "presence"... can't even speak English.
This is not a guy you give a 52 mil contract to.
And I am not saying that you should never overpay for a guy. The Yanks have done it. The Mets have. Everyone has.
My biggest issue with this signing is... there was no way he was getting anything close to 52mil from any other team. We all knew he was going to re-sign.... so why did the Yanks need to overpay? His market value is no where near this high.
This signing reminds me of the Knicks Allan Houston signing. Why give a guy 100 mil when the next offer on the table is only for 40.
But to each their own i guess. This signing will come back to haunt the Yanks (similar to the Posada one).

I hear that. Every team out there will be mad ****** at this signing. LOL
Because this will set the market for outfielders now.
If Matsui can get 4/52... then maybe someone will be crazy enough to give Damon his 7/84 or whatever he is currently demanding.

I'm happy he's a Yankee again. There are plently of players who are well overpaid (yes even on teams other then the Yankees). But of course since he's a Yankee it's even more of a crime.
