Re: car accidents

I was in a bad car accident in the summer of 94. My brother was driving, and some @sshole blew the stop sign and hit us almost head on. I luckily had my seatbelt on, but my mouth hit the dashboard and face hit the windshield. I have had extensive dental work, which the dentist told me I would battle the rest of my life, I also had stitches in my chin, lip and nose. and yes, we did sueChat Icon

Re: car accidents

Very bad, when I was 17. Driving home from Astoria at 3am on a Tuesday when I should have been home sleeping for a test the next day. Came to a stop sign, didn't see anything but when I was in the middle of the intersection some dingleberry who was speeding hit me on my driver's side. My car flipped, rolled 3 times and ended up on the other end of the block upside down. Thankfully, I was in a Volvo, and I walked out without a scratch. No, I lied, I had a bruise on my collarbone from the seatbelt holding me upside down.

I didn't sue, but the dingleberry did, for half a million. My insurance company settled because at the time, I wasn't a good witness. I think they settled for about $25k.

Here too. Can't say the same for DH. He was hit on the side by another car and his car flipped. Amazingly enough, he made it out with minor scratches. Chat Icon

Yes, but I didn't sue. The other driver was at fault. He helped me climb out of my car and admitted complete fault to the police officer who came to take the report.

Saddly, I think that if he wanted to lie, the cop would have believed him since he was middleaged and I was only 22 at the time

Re: car accidents

yes, October 2003... we were driving home at about midnight on Saturday and a guy ran a red light and hit our car on my passanger side... luckily we had side airbags it probably would have been worse... anyways, we did sue... I have problems with my back but mostly I just cant get over it and flinch every time a car comes close to our right side when we are driving...

Re: car accidents

I've been in 2 car accidents which have been devastating in impact on my life, but when I see horrible car accidents I can't compare them. A woman made a blind left turn in front of me and I hit her passenger side.. i have serious back injuies from it. These injuries were made 100% worse by getting rear ended on the meadowbrook 2.5 years later.

Re: car accidents

Yes...a Few.

The worst was on September 18th 2000. My friend and I were at a red light in front of Jerich Terrace, when a man in a taurus who wasn't paying attention slammed into the back of my 94 civic that was lowered 2 inches to the ground. I had my foot on the brake but I guess it slipped off when we got hit. My civic went under a toyota corolla that was in front of me, and the corolla hit a Lexus. The guy in the Lexus was fine, but he went to the hospital in an ambulance...Probably saw $$$$

We did end up suing and after 4 years collected.

Re: car accidents

I was in a bad accident when I was 2 years old. Both of my parents were knocked unconscious, I was thrown from the car, and a stranger picked me up and drove me to the hospital before the ambulance or police got there. My parents were FREAKING out when they heard that, but luckily we all wound up in the same ER. I don't think they sued, for all I know it could have been my dad's fault.Chat Icon

ETA: none of us had serious injuries.

Re: car accidents

Fortunately, I haven't been in a BAD car accident, but my Dad and Rich were. (separately)

Rich was actually HIT by a car while riding his bike when he was a kid. He was 13 - and this was before the helmet laws, so of course, he wasn't wearing one. He was thrown over the handlebars, and broke his wrists, his ankles, his teeth, and suffered a severe concussion that lead to a cerebral hemhorrage.

The driver was a drunk mother of a classmate of ours. Chat Icon She was not arrested. He sued, and finally settled about 7 years after the accident. He used some of the $ to pay for college, the rest is gaining interest somewhere, but will be used as a DP on a home someday. Chat Icon

He's lucky to be alive and functioning like a normal human being.

Re: car accidents

I've been in two bad ones. DH and I were hit at the passenger side door and rolled over in his Audi. I wasn't wearing a seatbelt and the cops said if I had been I would have died- I would have been trapped and the door would have crushed my body. I didn't sue, because it's was DH's fault (boyfriend at the time) and didn't want to screw him over.
The second one was in a cab in Miami, we were rear ended by a car going 50MPH while we were at a standstill. I totally should have sued, but I was drunk and refused to go to the hospital. It wasn't until later that I realized how serious my injuries were. I'm so stupud for not suing. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
