looking for help/advice re: Mental Health....

Does anyone know anything about szchophrenia (sp?)?
I'm looking for information, advice, treatment, support groups, doctors, anything.

It's a long, complicated story, but my MIL has the condition. I could sit here for days and tell stories and situations that have occurred.
I am so upset and depressed over it b/c it has gotten worse recently.

Can anyone help me, her, and the family?

YOu can FM me if you need more details.

Re: looking for help/advice re: Mental Health....

First I just wanted to say that I am sorry to hear about your MIL, & I hope that everything works out for you, your Dh & your family. Have you tried getting any suggestions from her regular doctor of any places that he/she would recommend you can go. I don't know where you live but there is a place in Seaford on Jackson Avenue called the Southeast Nassau Guidance Center & they handled alot of cases such as these as well as drug/alcohol. My husband is a pharmacist in seaford & deal with them alot. The number 516-221-3030. If you don't live close to seaford then you can call them & maybe they know of another place that is closer to your home.

Good luck

I actually would not recommend this place anymore because they do not have any full time psychologists working for them anymore. Just social workers.

Go to the NAMI website. It is the national alliance for mental health and lists lots of resources. You need to find a good psychologist and psychiatrist. Where do you live? However, she may need a higher level of care depending on how stable and psychotic she is. A higher level of care would include in patient hospitalization or a partial hospitalization program.

Hmmmm....... "just social workers". I guess you are a psychologist.

Just for the record, while psychologists and social workers have very different training both are well qualified to do therapy.

I agree with the above poster that both are qualified. Just for the record, I am neither psychologist nor social worker!
