5 months - just started cereal and he won't eat it :(

Uuuuggghh

I started oatmeal cereal 3 nights ago. I skipped rice because my first DS hated it.The first 2 nights he had terrible gas. Last night and this morning he just doesn't seem interested in eating it. Please help! I was hoping it would help him STTN

Here is his schedule:

8am - 2 tsp oatmeal and the rest of a 7 oz bottle

12pm - 7 oz bottle

4pm - 7 oz bottle

8pm - 2 tsp oatmeal and the rest of a 7 oz bottle

12 am - 7 oz bottle

4 am - 7 oz bottle

HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!

If he's not ready for it, don't force it. Wait a week or so, and then try it again!

Thanks - that's what I was thinking. I was really hoping that starting the cereal would help him to skip the 12am or the 4am feeding - I'm back to work and I'm exhausted.

I was also thinking that maybe I shouldn't wait to feed him at the 4 hour mark. Maybe he's too hungry to put the effort into eating the cereal - maybe I should try giving it to him "between" feedings, KWIM?

5 months is still early for solids. Most likely he's not ready. DD was like that (we waited until 6 months), she really didn't anything to do with solids until we started her on table food at 9 months.

Solids and STTN is really a myth anyway..... your DC will STTN when he is ready.

I would try to do it in between 2 feedings. If my LO is too hungry then the food doesn't cut it, the bottle is all they want!

ETA: maybe try at like 7:00 pm. this way it is still late and it may hold the baby over more at night, but not take away from the last feed. good luck!

We used to feed Lily every 3 hours and it helped fill her up during the day so she would sleep at night....maybe you can try that?

He might not be ready. I started DS at 4 mo. and he wasn't into it. My ped. told me to stick with it even if it was only a few bites. About 2 weeks ago shortly after turning 5 mo. all of a sudden he loved it. Each baby is different.

DS hated cereal... I had him try it and then went to fruits and veggies.
Gerber makes a rice cereal that is apple banana flavored, he does like that.

try it with a little of the baby apple or banana mixed in. we started at 4 months and ds couldnt get enough.
